Een betere vraag is: wat heeft Poetin hiermee te verliezen?

Het is gewoon een vraag. Wat zou hij te winnen hebben met zo'n moord?

De uitschakeling van een tegenstander met de nodige contacten, kennis en ervaring om het Poetin lastig te kunnen maken (i.t.t. Kasparov en Navalny), zeker nu Rusland in een financiële en economische crisis is beland, en die bovendien net aan een rapport over de oorlog tegen Oekraïne bezig was. Je moet niet ver zoeken om een motief te vinden. Nemtsov was medeorganisator van een massademonstratie tegen de regering die gepland was over twee dagen. De aanslag is duidelijk bedoeld om verzet tegen de regering te ontmoedigen. Het is tekenend voor de politieke sfeer in Rusland.

De moord komt twee dagen voor een geplande massademonstratie in Moskou, die Nemtsov mede heeft georganiseerd. Meerdere antiregeringsbewegingen zouden deelnemen aan de zogeheten 'lente anticrisis-mars'.
