De canonieke evangelies en handelingen en de kindheidsevangelies kunnen inderdaad als een geheel van legende- en mythevorming gezien worden.
Marcion is daarnaast ook een kandidaat uit Klein Azië, die in aanmerking komt als degene die voor het eerst Jezus en Christus verenigd heeft. Handelingen lijkt een antwoord op Marcion te zijn.
Als deze piste waar zou zijn, zou dit moeten betekenen dat Jezus zijn intrede in de brieven van Paulus deed rond deze tijd, begin-halverwege de 2de eeuw dus.

Marcion is een cruciale figuur voor het ontstaan van het christendom. Hij werd door de kerk verketterd. Nochtans is het opmerkelijk dat hij grote aanhang had en dat zijn beperkte canon van het NT de oudste overgeleverde canon is.

Marcion verwierp het OT en zijn God en predikte, als ik mij goed herinner, dat christenen ongehuwd moesten leven en zonder seks.
Het laat 2e eeuwse christendom verzoent de Ebionieten met de Marcionieten, ofwel, de Joden met de heidenen.
