March 14 prep document against Hezbollah role in Syria

BEIRUT: The March 14 coalition is preparing a document demanding an end to Hezbollah’s military intervention in Syria, Future Movement MP Ammar Houri said Wednesday.

“March 14 is putting the final touches on a memorandum outlining Hezbollah’s involvement in Syria and the negative impact [of that on Lebanon],” Houri told Radio Orient.

The document, according to Houri, will demand Hezbollah’s withdrawal from Syrian territory and the immediate deployment of the Lebanese Army along the Lebanon-Syria border, possibly with the help of United Nations peacekeepers.

Houri said the memorandum will be submitted to President Michel Sleiman.

Hezbollah fighters recently joined the Syrian Army in an offensive in Syria to reclaim rebel held areas.

“The memo will also call for the formation of a Lebanese government, a government of national interest, a salvation government as soon as possible to deal with issues relating to people and preserve the sovereignty and independence of Lebanon,” Houri said.

He said the document will also underline the perils of Hezbollah’s involvement for the country.

Houri said a copy of the memo will also be presented to the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States and the U.N. Secretariat.

Houri did not say when the document will be issued.
