Laten we ernstig blijven. Auto's die overal autonoom kunnen rijden zijn er nog lang niet.
Om de orde van het probleem te illustreren: op de site van Google Cars, nu Waymo, claimt Google Car dat ze al 3 miljoen km autonoom gereden hebben. https://waymo.com/
Dat lijkt veel maar is in werkelijkheid verwaarloosbaar weinig.
Wayme claimt:
In ons eigen land, geen voorbeeld van verkeersveiligheid, valt er 1 dodelijk slachtoffer per 140 miljoen verreden km. In betere landen zoals vb de UK zal dat aantal km ongeveer het dubbele zijn.
Ik weet niet welke fabrikant bereid is om de gigantische kost te dragen om met vele honderden miljoenen km de deugdelijkheid van zijn autonoom voertuig aan te tonen. |
Tesla had al meer dan 2 miljard kms semi-autonome kms in november 2016 vergaard..., een groot deel kan men zeker aktief autonoom noemen (500 miljoen kms volgens de link), want de bestuurder laat de auto zelf rijden:

Tesla has now 1.3 billion miles of Autopilot data going into its new self-driving program

Electrek has learned that Tesla has now accumulated 1.3 billion miles of Autopilot data from its first generation sensor suite and “nearly all of it” is useful to the second generation Autopilot, according to the company.
We reported last month that Tesla’s fleet has reached 3 billion miles driven and Tesla confirmed to Electrek last week that 1.3 billion of those miles were driven by Tesla vehicles with Autopilot hardware.
To be clear, those are not miles driven on Autopilot (with Autosteer and TACC), but miles driven in cars with Autopilot first generation hardware. Tesla still uses the data even when the Autopilot is not active in order to feed its machine learning system and improve its Autopilot programs: Autopilot, Enhanced Autopilot, and Full Self-Driving Capability.
The actual number of miles driven with the Autopilot active is closer to 300 million miles at this point.
In comparison, Tesla disclosed that it accumulated 780 million miles driven on hardware-equipped cars and ~100 million with Autopilot active back in May 2016:

Ik denk dus dat Tesla dat in zekere mate al aangetoond heeft.
De Tesla-kms die semi-autonoom gereden worden (level 2) zijn namelijk precies gekend door Tesla, ze gebruiken al die data om hun autopilot-software en maps te optimaliseren.
Men hoeft die bepaalde Tesla-kms maar te vergelijken met bepaalde conventionele kms.

Report finds Tesla’s Autopilot makes driving much safer

Earlier today, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration published a detailed report absolving Tesla of fault in a May 2016 crash. That incident saw a Tesla under the control of semi-autonomous Autopilot software run into the side of a truck trailer, which subsequently saw critics freak out about the unsafe deployment of beta software to the nation’s roads.
Not only did the NHTSA report absolve Tesla of any blame in the accident, but analysis and testing of the Autopilot system found that across Tesla’s fleet, the deployment of Autopilot reduced accidents by around 40 percent. Sorry, humans: we’re all bad at driving, and even the first generation of trial software is better at paying attention than your brain on Red Bull.

De autonome techniek kan snel gaan, maar moet best de weginfra en signalisatie-wegmarkeringen daarop conform aangepast worden, wat zeker mogelijk is. Dit ook bij wegenwerken. Vergeet niet dat deze computers in de auto dan quasi AI machtig zijn, dus zelflerend, en veel beter lerend dan een mens...:

In elk geval verwacht ik betere weginfra en signalisatie... ook voor diegenen die met een yong- of oldtimer rijden. Wie kan nu tegen betere wegen zijn ?
