Local residents in the east are expecting the Sri Lankan Army to walk into
Vaharai -- the last LTTE's stronghold of the Trincomalee region despite
holding more than 30,000 Internally Displaced People as human shield and
placing nearly 8,000 landmines around Vaharai.

Soosaipillai Joseph Anthonydas, alias Colonel Sornam, who is the Special
Tiger Commander of the Trincomalee region, withdrew to Vaharai after the
defeat at Sampur.

Suddenly he has gone missing in his base in Vaharai. It is learnt that he is
hiding in the Kuranku Panchan jungles and trying to flee to Vanni from his
hide out.

The body placed in a coffin of his deputy, Arivu alias Charles, was found
washed ashore in an abandoned boat and Sri Lankan Army later handed over the
corpse to LTTE through the ICRC. Details of how he died and why his body was
left in an abandoned boat are still unclear.

What is happening to the Tiger leadership in the east is also not clear.
Parents of several cadres are making moves to smuggle their children out of
the country fearing Tiger reprisals.

S. Elilan, Head of the Political Division of Trincomalee who was last seen
in Vaharai after the fall of Sampur has managed to slip safely back to
Vanni.

Colonel Ramesh who had a verbal duel with Bahnu is no more in Vaharai. He is
now in the Thoppiyagala jungles.

The former Commander for Batticalao - Amparai district Colonel Bahnu too has
managed to slip back in Vanni along with Colonel Ram and Praba of the
Military Intelligence.

Nothing is heard about the Batticalao - Amparai district special commander
Colonel Jeyam. Reports reveal that he is not in the 'Thenagam', the official
Eastern LTTE's Headquarters.

Reports also claim that the lower Tiger ranks are struggling to hold the
fort with only minimum stocks of food available to them. News of cadres
surrendering to the Sri Lanka Army with arms and also to the Tamil Makkal
Viduthalai Pulikal led by Colonel Karuna are filtering in.
