A guy named Arkhipov saved the world >< vijf minuten politieke moed
==> "A guy named Arkhipov saved the world."
Joehoe ! |

in a world full of morons
Why the Fuck Isn’t this guy made into an honorary Demi-God. Every single one of us owe our lives to this man. In a world full of morons, this guy had enough humanity left in him to fight for it.
His name is Vasily Arkhipov. Co-Captain on a Russian submarine armed with nuclear tipped torpedoes in October of 1962, the submarine was patrolling near Cuba when 11 US Navy destroyers boxed the submarine in and began to drop depth charges in order to lure the submarine to the surface to be identified. At least, that’s what the U.S. claims on the record. As to the facts of what exactly happened on the submarine are still a bit hazy, 2 facts are certain. 1- Either the Captain or the Political Officer of the submarine, or Both, became enraged at the actions displayed by the American forces and immediately ordered the nuclear weapons to be armed and made ready for a counter-attack. Bear in mind the only authorization required for launch at the time was for the ships 3 main officers to be in agreement. 2- An argument broke out between the Captain, Co-Captain Arkhipov, and the Political Officer in which the only one against the launch of the weapons was Arkhipov. He eventually persuaded the Captain to stand down, surface the craft, and await further instruction from their Headquarters. ==> "A guy named Arkhipov saved the world" |
