Een thread voor films die de bedoeling hebben intellectueel te prikkelen en in één of ander opzicht een beetje alternatief of speciaal zijn. Voor weinig bekende maar daarom niet minder interessante films dus. Uiteraard is welke films hieronder te verstaan zijn voer voor discussie maar het moge duidelijk zijn dat big budget entertainmentfilms daar niet onder vallen.

A Scanner Darkly

... is a 2006 film directed by Richard Linklater based on the novel of the same name by Philip K. Dick. The film tells the story of identity and deception in a near-future dystopia constantly monitored by intensive high-technology police surveillance in the midst of a drug addiction epidemic. To give the film its distinct look, the movie was filmed digitally and then animated using interpolated rotoscope over the original footage.

In a totalitarian society in a near future, the undercover detective Bob Arctor is working with a small time group of drug users trying to reach the big distributors of a brain-damaging drug called Substance D. His assignment is promoted by the recovery center New Path Corporation, and when Bob begins to lose his own identity and have schizophrenic behavior, he is submitted to tests to check his mental conditions.


Al een tijdje geleden dat 'k hem zag maar 'k blijf hem goed vinden. Een goed verhaal, bij momenten verwarrend, wat eigenlijk te wijten is aan de verwarring van het hoofdpersonage zelf. Soms ook voorspelbaar. De originele beeldbewerking brengt de zware stemming goed in beeld.

Weetje; Alex Jones, u allen welbekend van de NWO-thread, komt er even in voor als een "dissident" die afgevoerd wordt door de totalitaire overheid.

The Cement Garden

After the death of her husband, the mother of Julie, Jack, Sue and Tom begins to suffer from a mysterious illness. Aware that she is going to have to go into hospital she opens a bank account for the children, so that they can be financially self-sufficient and will be able to avoid being taken into care by the authorities. Unfortunately she also dies and Julie and Jack (the older, teenage children) decide to hide her body in the basement so that they can have free reign of their household. Soon Tom has taken to dressing as a girl whilst Sue has become increasingly reticent, confiding only to her diary, meanwhile Jack and Julie sense an attraction developing for each other. However Julie's new beau, Derek, threatens to unearth the many dark secrets within this family as he becomes increasingly suspicious of Jack.


Hopelijk kan 'k hem dit weekend bekijken. Wordt beschreven als een "dark social study novel" over oa incest en transgenderheid.

"Soldier Blue" uit 1970, waarin gedeeltelijk de genocide op de oorspronkelijke bewoners vd VS getoond word . De film werd een flop in de USA, wat geen "toeval" kon zijn.

Gezien maar niets van blijven hangen. Wel van een film van hem waarin ze porno doen, gehandycapten nadoen, ... en dan met zichzelf in problemen komen ... waar liggen de grenzen, perceptie, ... . Titel vergeten.

Ik weet niet goed wat 'k er van moest denken. 'k Kon hem wel smaken. Nu nog verteren.

Donnie Darko

A troubled teenager, Donnie Darko, escapes death when a jet-engine crashes in his bedroom, because he follows a giant bunny leading him outside. The bunny, called Frank, tells him that the world will end in 28 days. As the final date comes closer and closer Donnie is drawn into an alarming series of events that may or may not be a product of growing insanity.

The self-styled idiots feel that the society-at-large treats their intelligence uncreatively and unchallengingly; thus, they seek the uninhibited self-expression that they imagine a romantic ideal of disability will allow.
