***India and Iran both supported Afghanistan’s minority-dominated “Northern Alliance” against the Taliban during 1996-2001 (in contrast to Pakistan, which supported the Taliban).

***India and Iran both supported the U.S. military-led ousting of the Taliban regime and both seek to prevent a return of a Taliban or Taliban-style regime.

***India and Iran have each separately given substantial economic aid to the U.S.-backed government of Hamid Karzai.

***Iran is assisting Afghanistan’s economic reconstruction through road building and other construction in the areas bordering Afghanistan.
