A 14-year-old Bahraini boy has died after being hit by a tear gas canister during clashes between anti-government protesters and security forces, the Gulf kingdom's main Shia opposition group al-Wefaq has said.

Activists blamed the police for the death of Ali Jawad Ahmad, who was among the protesters in the oil hub area of Sitra on Wednesday.

A police official told the state news agency BNA that the incident was being investigated, without saying how the boy was injured.

Bahrain has been in turmoil for the past few months since protests by the dominant Shia community broke out, demanding great freedom and political rights.

More than 30 people have been killed since the protests began in February inspired by other uprisings across the Arab world.

More than 70 per cent of Bahrain's population is Shia but claim widespread discrimination by the ruling al-Khalifa Sunni dynasty.

Small scale clashes between police and mostly Shia demonstrators have become a near nightly event in the tense Gulf nation since authorities lifted emergency rule in June.

King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa has offered compensation to victims of the crackdowns in February, but says protest-related trials will continue.

In July Bahrain's leaders opened reconciliation talks, but the country's main Shia party walked out and threatened to stage further protests.

An independent fact-finding panel is investigating alleged rights abuses in Bahrain and is expected to release its findings at the end of October.

Op het journaal is doorgaans erger beeldmateriaal te zien.
Overigens valt het nog zeer goed mee. Zolang we geen gat in zijn kop zien waar zijn hersens uit bengelen kan het voor mij allemaal.


Je bent dus:
1) Niet veel gewoon
2) Of jonger dan 14
3) Of je bent gewoon verslaafd aan de rode driehoek.

Dank u voor deze bijdrage, ik vraag me af of ze de protesten en de gevolgen daarvan voor het volk nu eindelijk ook eens hier in de media gaan brengen. Het journaal is inhoudelijk 0,0, het is gewoon ziek dat ze zulke zaken verzwijgen en verdoezelen.

Een linkje naar die afbeeldingen volstaat, er zijn hier mensen die onder de middag aan het eten zijn aan hun pc.

Zo erg is het nu ook weer niet he, niet overdrijven AUB.

Ik eet op deze moment tomatensaus met balletjes, en ik kijk recht in de ogen vaa het dode kind. Ik zie het probleem niet.

Er zit niet genoeg olie in de grond.

Het is wansmakelijk. Bloedende (kinder)lijken zijn niet mijn ding.

Of er op het journaal daadwerkelijk dit soort beelden te zien zijn weet ik niet, maar als ik de Video van Al Jazeera bekijk was het gezicht van deze jongen toch duidelijk minder herkenbaar gemaakt. Verder kijk ik jammer genoeg bijna nooit TV.

Ook wou ik nog opmerken dat er op verschillende plaatsen onrust en protesten bestaan en dat er dikwijls onschuldige slachtoffer vallen. Verloren dolle kogels, een onschuldig kind... U begrijpt het wel. Dat wil niet zeggen dat men dan automatisch een closeup foto van deze mensen in het nieuws brengt. Dat is trouwens op zijn minst overbodig en meestal als men dat wel doet, is dat voor politieke doeleinden.

Ik weet niet of U een kind hebt, maar menig mens zal het toch niet leuk vinden dat een bloederige foto van hun kind op het journaal komt.

Zelf heb ik ook al wel eens vrij bloederig en gruwelijk materiaal gepost, maar dan wel steeds met een waarschuwing en een C/P link. Daar ben ik toch wel iets voorzichtiger mee.

Blijkbaar nam U meer aanstoot aan mijn post dan aan de bloody foto. Is dat veelzeggend ? Hopelijk zijn Uw twijfels aangaande nu verdronken in de rode saus en begrijpt U het motief van mijn vorige post en kan U nu rustig verder Uw balletjes opeten.

Oja, ik zou die foto van OBL met bengelende hersens wel eens willen zien ipv een dood onschuldig kind. Criteria ?

Thousands of Bahrainis have attended funeral procession of a teenager who rights groups say died after being hit by a tear gas canister fired by police.
About 10,000 marched on Thursday at the 14-year-old boy's funeral, calling for the overthrow of King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa and the Sunni Muslim royal family in the Gulf state, Reuters news agency reported.
The marchers, many of them in tears, shouted "Down with Hamad" and "Death to Al-Khalifa", as they carried the Shia Muslim boy's body from his family's home to a cemetery, a witness said.
The crowd dispersed peacefully and there were no reports of clashes with police forces.
The government denied that police were responsible for the death, and offered a 10,000-dinar ($26,500) reward for information on Ali Jawad Ahmad's death.
"The coroner's report indicates that the markings on Ali's neck are not consistent with being hit with a tear gas canister or rubber bullet as some have claimed," the government said in a statement on Thursday.

Zo te zien heeft het veel weg van een schotwond. Zo te zien dus. Ik denk dat iedere antaoom-patholoog hier wel een oorzaak zou kunnen vaststellen.
Of de politiek die ongefilterd naar buiten zou laten komen is vers 2.
Het zijn en blijven mensen met weinig zelfdiscipline.
Als zo' n enorme mensenmassa wil dat de Sheikh verdwijnt, dan zal hij ook verdwijnen.
Maar de Al-Khalifa' s zullen hun macht niet zo maar en voetstoots opgeven.
Met hulp van de VS dan, wel te verstaan.
