Dear Ms Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger,

I was very concerned to hear that Germany has detained Sea Shepherd's Captain Paul Watson for possible extradition to Costa Rica.
I understand that the warrant for Captain Watson's arrest is politically motivated.

Shark finning has been a major cause to the near extinction of several species of sharks. We NEED sharks to control our ecosystem. Without them the ocean's balance would be thrown off and the results would be not only devastating to our food chain but to the world's oxygen supply which comes for the most part from our oceans.

I support Sea Shepherd's efforts to monitor and publicise illegal fishing and whaling around the world and recognize that some illegal fishing operations try to use international law to shut down the Sea Shepherd operations.

I urge you to consider the valuable work Captain Watson and Sea Shepherd are undertaking globally to highlight the dangers to our oceans in considering this extradition request.

"Thank-you to all the Sea Shepherd supporters worldwide for being here for me, in support of securing my freedom from this jail in Germany.

... "Our efforts to protect life in our oceans have made us some very powerful enemies, most notably the government of Japan.

"But against this power, we have the passion of all those who support life and it is this passion for life that will triumph over the power of those who would destroy our oceans.

"I know that with your support Germany will not send me to what will most certainly be a death sentence in Costa Rica."

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — An environmental activist group known for its confrontations with whalers and fishermen says its founder has been arrested in Germany for extradition to Costa Rica for allegedly interfering with a shark fishing boat.

Paul Watson of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society was arrested Saturday in Frankfurt, the U.S.-based group said in a statement Sunday.

Sea Shepherd said Watson is accused of violating of ships traffic during filming of a documentary in 2002. The group said the incident took place in Guatemalan waters, when Sea Shepherd encountered an illegal shark finning operation run by a Costa Rican ship, the Varadero.

Sea Shepherd said it told the Varadero's crew to stop and head to port to be prosecuted. The crew accused Sea Shepherd of trying to kill them.

Kverwachtte inderdaad niets anders eigenlijk, nu u het zegt ;)

Een korte Google-Fu sessie geeft aan dat die man een greintje sympathie kon krijgen van me. Zijn standpunten ivm vrijwillige bevolkingsbeperking en gecontroleerde migratie krijgen een + van me.

Maar zijn veganisme en de idioterie die daarrond hangt stoot me vierkant af.

Ook zijn persoonlijk leven en het aanmeten van niet verworven titels, alswel het feit dat zelfs Greenpeace hem uitspuwd als te extreem geeft me te denken dat ik die kwiet liever in een witte jas met lange mouwen en veel gespen zie.

Ik eet dat ook niet.

'T Feit dat hij veganist is, is enkel logisch gevolg van zijn standpunten me dunkt. Dan is iemand consequent, is' t nog niet goed ;)

Paul Watson is eerder zelf opgestapt bij Greenpeace omdat Greenpeace winst moet maken en in feite als een multinational bestuurd wordt en waarschijnlijk op de 50 jaar (?) dat ze bestaan minder walvissen hebben gered dan THE CAPTAIN.
War niet wegneemt dat Greenpeace er moet zijn om bewustzijnsveranderingen te creëren.

Paul Watson is weggstemd uit de raad van de startende Greenpeace. Slechts 1 tegenstem. De zijne.

Dat die man konsekwent zou zijn maakt mijn standpunt over veganisme niet anders.
Ik vind het gewoon achterlijk, de omnivorische oorsprong van de Homo Sapiens te ontkennen.

Jaja , een mens kan gerust leven op perfect uitgekiend veganistisch voedsel.
Maar dat kan de mens ook op puur synthetisch voedsel.

En heb je ook iets nuttigs bij te dragen?

Wordt dan maar gauw ziek.

Ja: er is maar één oplossing voor alle wereldleed: Vlaams christelijk solidarisme!

(Alleen jammer dat anno 2012 zelfs de paardekoppen er niet meer in geloven :lol:)

Tof dat u mensen die u niet kent zoiets verwenst, sympathieke mensch u.

Mor ik zien a gere, nu gij.

Costa Rica heeft geen doodstraf.

Dacht ik al, sorry voor die verkeerde uitspraak (afgegaan op einde van zijn briefje in openingspost)
Costa Rica is een uitzonderlijk positief land op't vlak van milieu (heeft rechten aan de natuur gegeven) en mensenrechten en heeft ook geen leger, kverschiet er eigenlijk van, van deze zaak. Daarom dat er in een persconferentie werd geponeerd dat Japan hier onrechtstreeks mee te maken kan hebben.
