Spoedig militaire actie tegen AQIM in Mali met toestemming van de eerste minister van Mali, Cheikh Modibo Diarra. Meer dan waarschijnlijk volgen ook operaties in Libië.

In Zuid-Europa hebben de Amerikaanse militairen reeds behoorlijk wat oorlogstuig verzameld en deze zijn "ready to go" voor de komende "interventies".

This is what seems to appear by judging what is happening in Europe and, more specifically, in the Mediterranean Sea, where, quite silently, the U.S. is amassing Special Operations planes and helicopters.

While a “simple” Non-Combatant Evacuation of local diplomatic missions seems to be a less likely option now, the presence of several U.S. planes in some strategic bases in southern Europe and the constant activity seems to suggest that something of a larger extent could be carried out: a strike on selected targets in Libya and, possibly, in Northern Mali, controlled by three Islamist armed groups, including Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM).

The fact that Washington has intensified its military presence in Southern Europe is not only backed by the observation of unusual military activity in the region (such as the AC-130U gunships and KC-135 tankers whose deployment to Souda Bay, Crete, has not been advertised).

In one of his latest articles on this subject, Guido Olimpio, Corriere della Sera correspondent from Washington, has reported that U.S. drone flights in the region have followed insurgents in Cyrenaica, eastern Libya, while, speaking to the Adnkronos International (AKI) news agency, “trustable sources” have confirmed that the U.S. Special Forces are currently planning intelligence activities that could be just the anticipation of a surgical anti-terror strike in North Africa, including Libya and Mali.

However, not only the U.S. have been targeting Islamist groups in Northern Mali. Le Figaro unveiled that 100 members of French Special Forces have been already deployed in the region, and they should soon be strengthened, in particular by the commandos of the French Navy, while intelligence gathering and surveillance aircraft are already based in Niger.</sub>

HLN - Mali vraagt westen om militaire interventie
29 september 2012 De eerste minister van Mali, Cheikh Modibo Diarra, heeft het westen en dan vooral Frankrijk opgeroepen om militair in te grijpen in het noorden van het land, door gevechtsvliegtuigen en speciale troepen te sturen. Dat meldt de krant Le Monde.

"Eens de internationale gemeenschap overtuigd is van de noodzaak te handelen, moet Frankrijk de eerste stap zetten", aldus de Malinese regeringsleider. Hij heeft het onder meer over Franse Mirage-vliegtuigen.

Ik vermoed dat de VS nog voor de verkiezingen vlug ergens iets zal bombarderen in Libië om de commander in chief wat meer stemmen te doen halen. Doden voor het media-altaar, zoals we dat ook zien in Syrië.

Vraag is, wie gaan ze bombarderen in Libië ? Het groene verzet of andere doelwitten ?

Drones met sensoren (tot >60 aan 1 drone) zoeken dat uit.

De VS en haar militair industrieel complex hebben nooit een tekort aan doelwitten gehad. Oorlog is hun levensbloed lijk het wel. Het is niet zo belangrijk voor hen welke 'militie' gebombardeerd wordt. Belangrijker is het feit zelf dat er gebombardeerd wordt en de media spin die men er aan kan geven. We leven in een bijzonder cynische wereld op dit moment.

De moord op de ambassadeur moet nog gewroken worden. Bovendien zal het doel zijn om Ansar Al-Sharia met wortel en tak uit te roeien. De tijd is er rijp voor.

Dat telt zeker mee. De aanval op de militaire basis in Pearl Harbor is ook goed gewroken met een koppel flinke bommen op burgerdoelwitten. Maar dat soort van motivaties mogen niet zo openlijk vermeld worden meestal. Mensen zouden wel eens kunnen beginnen twijfelen aan wie 'de goeden' eigenlijk zijn.

Dat zal hier niet het geval zijn. Ansar Al-Sharia is het doelwit. Zij kunnen niet meer veilig in het openbaar verschijnen. Het zou tot een scheiding der geesten in Libië moeten leiden. Alle extremisten en vijanden van de VS worden dan opgejaagd en uitgeroeid.

Helemaal niet. Maar ik ben geen hooligan die degenen waarvan hij geen fan van is de dood toewenst. Ik merk dat u geen probleem heeft met de wraak motivatie in het geval van Hiroshima en Nagasaki. Toon maar aan de wereld waarvoor u eigenlijk staat.

Ooit zal de VS zich verontschuldigen voor de bommen op Hiroshima en Nagasaki. Nu zijn ze nog te machtig en te zelfvoldaan om hun eigen misdaden onder ogen te kunnen zien.

U bent een goede ziel, maar niet erg praktisch. De VS is er van overtuigd dat de angst voor een nieuw Hiroshima en Nagasaki hen veilig door de koude oorlog met de USSR heeft gevoerd en dat de nagalm ervan ook heden nog hun hegemonie ondersteunt. Deze daden zullen voor altijd gelden als gerechtvaardigd en een noodzakelijk kwaad.

Fighters from the Islamist group Ansar Dine stood guard during a hostage handover near Timbuktu, Mali. Al Qaeda and its allies have taken advantage of political instability.

MOPTI, Mali — Deep inside caves, in remote desert bases, in the escarpments and cliff faces of northern Mali, Islamic fighters are burrowing into the earth, erecting a formidable set of defenses to protect what has essentially become Al Qaeda’s new country.

They have used the bulldozers, earth movers, and loaders left behind by fleeing construction crews to dig what residents and local officials describe as an elaborate network of tunnels, trenches, shafts, and ramparts.

In just one case, inside a cave large enough to drive trucks into, they have stored up to 100 drums of gasoline, guaranteeing their fuel supply in the face of a foreign intervention, according to analysts.

Northern Mali is now the biggest territory held by Al Qaeda and its allies. And as the world hesitates, delaying a military intervention, the extremists who seized control of the area last year are preparing for a war they boast will be worse than the decade-old struggle in Afghanistan.

‘‘Al Qaeda never owned Afghanistan,’’ said former United Nations diplomat Robert Fowler, a Canadian kidnapped and held for 130 days by Al Qaeda’s local chapter, whose fighters now control the main cities in the north. ‘‘They do own northern Mali.’’

(Novum/AP) - Diep in grotten verscholen, in afgelegen kampementen in de woestijn en op de hellingen en kliffen van Noord-Mali graven islamitische strijders zich in. Zij bouwen aan geduchte verdedigingswerken ter bescherming van wat in essentie het nieuwe land van Al-Qaida is geworden.

Met bulldozers en graafmachines, achtergelaten door op de vlucht geslagen bouwvakkers, wordt volgens bewoners van het gebied gewerkt aan een uitgebreid netwerk van tunnels, loopgraven en bolwerken. In een grot liggen honderd vaten benzine opgeslagen, zodat ook de brandstofvoorraad in geval van een buitenlandse interventie op orde is.

Noord-Mali is nu het grootste gebied dat in handen van Al-Qaida en diens bondgenoten is. Terwijl de internationale gemeenschap aarzelt om in te grijpen en een militaire interventie op zich laat wachten, bereiden de opstandelingen zich voor op oorlog.

Terwijl iedereen zich blind staart op Syrie heeft Al-Qaeda (AQIM) Noord Mali veroverd waar ze een eigen autonome Al-Qaeda staat willen oprichten. Vanuit die positie zullen ze in staat zijn de volledige Sahel te domineren.

Zonder twijfel een gevolg van de 'geslaagde' westerse operatie in Libie.

As the world focuses its attention on the conflict in Syria, northern Mali has become the biggest expanse of territory controlled by al Qaeda, which is seeking to establish an autonomous state. Rukmini Callimachi from the Associated Press describes Mali as "Al Qaeda's new country" while extremists that have seized over 240,000 square miles of area claim the jihad in Mali will be worse than the war in Afghanistan. Former UN diplomat Robert Fowler, a man kidnapped and held by al Qaeda for 130 days in 2008, recently seconded this ominous prognosis: ''Al Qaeda never owned Afghanistan. They do own northern Mali."

Jihadists from Ansar Dine (Defenders of the Faith), a group linked to al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), took advantage of a security vacuum created nine months ago by a military coup in March, forcing President Amadou Toumani Touré into exile for his perceived mishandling of the Tuareg rebellion. Now, Taliban-like turbaned fighters amputate limbs, flog women for not covering up, and have destroyed seven world heritage sites, which unschooled Sunni mullahs have deemed "un-Islamic" because they contain the remains of Sufi saints.
