MODEL IN COKE BUST

July 14, 2004 -- A Belgian model went from the catwalk to a perp walk after she was busted at Kennedy Airport trying to smuggle cocaine into the country, authorities said yesterday.
Ingrid Parewijck, 25, was busted with three plastic packets Saturday evening on her way through a customs checkpoint following an Air France flight from Paris, authorities said.

"She was carrying an illegal narcotic, cocaine, with a personal-use amount," said Customs spokeswoman Janet Rapaport. "It was found in her jeans and her handbag."

She was turned over to Port Authority police, who slapped on the cuffs and carted her over to a holding cell at Queens Central Booking.

The sexpot — described by a court insider as "sad" and "petrified" at her arraignment Sunday — was hit with a drug-possession charge that carries up to 15 years in prison.

"It was not for sale," her lawyer, Gregory Watts, told criminal court Judge Laura Ward, according to a court transcript.

"Assuming it was in her possession, I believe it's not for anything but personal use."

He later added, "It may just be a problem she has regarding drug abuse."

Ward, normally a drug court judge in Manhattan, agreed to release her without bail, but not before demanding her passport and issuing a stern lecture.

"I've seen more than my fair share of models convicted on drug charges doing five to 15 years in jail," Ward said. "I am very concerned."

Ward said Parewijck will be held without bail if she fails a urine test when she returns to court July 26.

The 5-foot-9 lanky blonde, who shares a loft apartment in TriBeCa, has appeared on the cover of the European editions of Vogue and Elle as well as Photo magazine.

She also has done runway work for lingerie hefties La Perla and Victoria's Secret and is a model for French perfumer Guerlain.

BELGIAN model Ingrid Parewijck faces up to 15 years in jail after 2.7 grams of cocaine were found in her possession during a routine inspection at JFK airport on Saturday night. The 25-year-old blonde Next model, who is currently the face of L'Instant de Guerlain Pour Hommes and Lavazza, had one plastic package in her pocket and two more in her brown leather handbag, according to a criminal complaint read out in Queens Criminal Court the following day. "This is not a situation… where this is for sale," Parewijck's lawyer, Gregory Watts, told the judge. "It may be just a problem she has regarding drug abuse." Judge Laura Ward was straight with the model, however. "It's pretty pathetic if it is for personal use," she said. "I've seen more than my fair share of models convicted on drug charges doing five to 15 years in jail. If you put that stuff up your nose one time, that's one time too many. Do you understand that?"
