Ook de onderste bol van het Atomium heeft nu een Joodse naam
 

Niet helemaal verrassend maar de stad Brussel heeft laten weten dat de onderste bol van het Atomium vanaf nu de naam “bol François Englert” draagt. Met deze beslissing wordt hulde gebracht aan de joodse prof. Englert die gisteren de Nobelprijs voor Fysica 2012 kreeg toegekend. Het gaat om de onderste basisbol van het Atomium die met nog vier andere bollen toegankelijk is voor het publiek en waarin de permanente tentoonstelling over de Expo in 1958 is onder gebracht.

Daarmee is François Englert de tweede Joodse wetenschapper die met een van de bollen vereerd wordt. Een bol aan de zijkant draagt immers de naam van Ilya Prigogine, de vorige Joodse Nobelprijswinnaar uit ons land die in 1973 deze prestigieuze prijs kreeg voor Geneeskunde.

“In België krijgt het woord bollebozen een extra dimensie” liet een van onze lezers naar aanleiding van de “Joodse atomiumbollen” aan onze redactie weten.

De middenste bol draagt de naam van ingenieur André Waterkeyn de man die het het monument dat sinds de wereldtentoonstelling dominant in het beeld van de Heizel aanwezig is heeft ontworpen was met een Joodse gehuwd. Belangrijke architecturale aspecten van het atomium waren het werk van de Joodse architecten André (1914-1988) en Jean Polak (1920-2012), de schoonbroers van ingenieur Waterkeyn.

The Gods of Ancient Egypt -- Atum

Atum

Other Names: Temu, Tem.

Patron of: the sun, creation, rulership of the gods.

Appearance: rarely human, usually depicted as a crown or as one of his many totem animals. He is sometimes depicted as a black bull carrying the sun disk between his horns.

Description: In the creation myths, Atum is the primal creator. He created himself (or arose out of nothing) and created the first gods, Shu and Tefnut, from his spittle. The Memphite creation myth puts him as the first creation of Ptah, who simply said his name and he came into being.

Atum was revered not only as the father of the gods but also as the father of the pharaohs. The title "Son of Atum" was included in the many titles of the king, even after the pharaohs styled themselves "Sons of Ra."

Worship: Worshipped widely throughout Egypt, with his cult center at Heliopolis.

Variants:

Ra-Atum/Atum-Ra
A composite deity with Ra. The primordial creative force combined with the ruler of the gods. In this form, Atum also symbolized the setting sun and its journey through the underworld to its rising in the east.

The Primate of the Gods Ptah, conceived in his heart, everything that exists and by His utterance created them all. He

is first to emerge from the primeval waters of Nun in the form of a Primeval Hill. Closely following the Hill, the God Atom also emerges from the waters and sits upon Ptah (the Hill). There remain in the waters four pairs of male and female gods (the Ogdoad, or unity of Eight-Gods), bearing the following names:—

(1) Nun and Naunet, i.e., the Primeval waters and the counter heaven.

(2) Huh and Hauhet, i.e., the boundless and its opposite:

(3) Kuk and Kauket, i.e., darkness and its opposite; and

(4) Amun, i.e., (Amon) and Amaunet, i.e., the hidden and its opposite.


It must be noted that while the Sun God Atom sits upon Ptah the Primeval Hill He accomplishes the work of creation. But the Memphite Theology dates back to 4000 B.C., when it is believed the Greeks were unknown (Frankfort's Intellectual Adventure of Man, p. 5; 53; 55. The Book of the Dead, p. 17).

This arrangement in the Memphite Theology could only mean that the ingredients of the Primeval Chaos contained ten principles: four pairs of opposite principles, together with two other gods: Ptah representing Mind, Thought, and creative Utterance; while Atom joins himself to Ptah and acts as Demiurge and executes the work of creation.
