Macedonië : poging tot staatsgreep
 

Gisteren zaterdag vond er een poging tot staatsgreep plaats in Macedonië. De leider van de oppositie, Zoran Zaev, zou betrokken zijn.

Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski accused Zaev of trying to blackmail him into resigning and giving way to a government of technicians by threatening to publish compromising phone conversations. (...)

(...) Last weekend, authorities arrested former intelligence chief Zoran Verusevski, accused of possessing illegal weapons. On Saturday, they also arrested Verusevski's his wife and one other man, in connection with the case. Computers, mobile phones, two illegal weapons and about 1 million files were confiscated during the search of the suspected homes, police said. Zaev's party has been boycotting parliament, accusing the ruling conservative coalition led by Gruevski's VMRO-DPMNE party of fraud in the April 2014 election.

Budapest–Belgrade–Skopje–Athens railway

Met een belangrijk stuk tussen Budapest en Belgrado:

The railway line between Budapest and Belgrade was used also by the Orient Express until 1914.
The Orient Express was running first time on the 5th of June 1883.
It was connecting Paris and Constantinople.

The outdated railway between Belgrade and Budapest will be modernised by Chinese companies. Starting from 2017 high speed trains could run on the 350 kilometers long connection. The travel time between the first and the final stop could be 2.4 hours. Nowadays it takes 8 hours. The project, worth 1.5 billion Euros, is said to be implemented by Chinese companies. For modernizing 188 kilometers are estimated 885 million Euros. 370 million Euros are provided already, because of a Russian credit. Based on earlier announcements the feasibility study and detailed construction plans should be provided until the middle of 2015, so that the modernizing works could start equally.

gewoon het gebruikelijke geopolitiek spel tussen Rusland en het Westen om de Balkan, net als meer dan een eeuw geleden. Zo veel is er uiteindelijk niet veranderd.
