The European Space Agency SWARM satellites have returned the first sets of data, allowing animations to be made. Just released on June 20, 2014. They have now projected a track for the North Pole to take by 2019. Moving into Russian waters across the North Pole (out of Canada into the Arctic North).

Previously, researchers estimated the field was weakening about 5 percent per century, but the new data revealed the field is actually weakening at 5 percent per decade, or 10 times faster than thought. As such, rather than the full flip occurring in about 2,000 years, as was predicted, the new data suggest it could happen sooner.

Spijtig niets over te vinden in onze media.

Dit is dan ook niks uitzonderlijks, de magnetische polen zijn voortdurend in beweging. En dat dit niet in de krant staat is ook vrij normaal, dit is niet iets dat Jan met de pet interesseert, dit is meer iets voor wetenschappelijke media. Wat wil je hier nu eigenlijk mee zeggen?

Nog eens goed lezen , 't gaat over het magnetische veld rond de aarde dat de laatste 50 jaar sterk is afgenomen en een pool wissel.

Magnetisch noorden verschuift 40 km per jaar in een rechte lijn richting Rusland. En versneld. Klein rekensommetje: na tien jaar is dat 400 km of meer dat ons klein landje richting zuid west gaat.

Het is de magnetische pool die zich verplaatst, ons landje blijft waar het is. De beweging van de magnetische polen is onafhankelijk van de geografische polen en de aardkorst zelf.

Die niet sterven, welke truk hebben die daarvoor?

Ik denk dat ik mij maar een GPS compas koop.

The discovery comes as new evidence indicates that the intensity of Earth’s magnetic field is decreasing 10 times faster than normal, leading some geophysicists to predict a reversal within a few thousand years.

Though a magnetic reversal is a major planet-wide event driven by convection in Earth’s iron core, there are no documented catastrophes associated with past reversals, despite much searching in the geologic and biologic record.
