De Saudische campagne in Jemen is vrij wreed en met enige regelmaat wordt er wel eens een school of een ziekenhuis gebombardeerd. {Maar dat is meestal geen hoofdnieuws bij Martine Tanghe, gebombardeerde scholen en ziekenhuizen lijken pas interessant als het in de schoenen van Assad of Rusland kan worden geschoven..}
Citaat:
US Defense Secretary James Mattis has asked the White House to lift Obama-era restrictions on its involvement in the war in Yemen, which the US is already indirectly fighting by supporting the Saudi-led coalition. Could this mean a new level of involvement for the US in yet another Middle East disaster?

Citaat:
"The other reason is about a proxy war between Saudi Arabia and Iran, with the US taking the side of Saudi Arabia against Iran; the Saudis are stepping up their campaign against Iran and Donald Trump is going along with it."

Citaat:
Approval of the request would mark a significant policy shift. U.S. military activity in Yemen until now has been confined mainly to counterterrorism operations against al-Qaeda’s affiliate there, with limited indirect backing for gulf state efforts in a two-year-old war that has yielded significant civilian casualties.
It would also be a clear signal of the administration’s intention to move more aggressively against Iran. The Trump White House, in far stronger terms than its predecessor, has echoed Saudi and Emirati charges that Iran is training, arming and directing the Shiite Houthis in a proxy war to increase its regional clout against the Gulf’s Sunni monarchies.
