Hyundai-Kia verkoopt nu meer electrische wagens dan hun plofwagens.

Internal-combustion vehicles made by Hyundai-Kia represented 8.9% of the global market in the first quarter of 2020. But the EVs it sells were 9.9% of the global electric-vehicle market. In other words, Hyundai could be the first legacy automaker that is now more competitive on EVs than with its gas- and diesel-powered cars.

Business Korea reported that in Q1 2020 Hyundai and Kia sold 28,796 electric vehicles, securing a 9.9% share. You could argue that the COVID-19 pandemic and strict CO2 standards in Europe combined to stall the overall auto market, but didn’t affect EV sales as strongly.

Regardless, it shows that the EV tipping point for Hyundai and its Kia brand could be closer than most people realize.

From 2016 until now, the global EV market grew by 4.28 times. But Hyundai-Kia’s EV sales ballooned by 20-fold. You might not see Hyundai as a major player for electric cars, at least in the US. But in the past five or so years, it went from ranking 15th in global EV sales to fourth place among automakers (behind Tesla, Nissan-Renault, and the Volkswagen Group).

Dat lijkt me ook veel te veel op 1 kwartaal, ook als het alle mogelijke voertuigen zijn, ook de niet-personenwagens.

Hyundai Group (dus incl Kia) verkocht ca. 5,7 % van de wereldmarkt stekkerwagens in 2019 (dus incl PHEV)

Meer dan 126.400, repectievelijk plaats 9 + 11 tesamen.

En 2020 zal (veel) beter worden, ondanks corona.

Hyundai Gp is competitiever geworden met zijn EV dan met zijn plofwagens.

Het loont dus. 8-)

Ik vertaal:

Door Hyundai-Kia vervaardigde plofwagens vertegenwoordigden 8,9% van de wereldmarkt in het eerste kwartaal van 2020. Maar de verkochte EV's waren 9,9% van de wereldmarkt voor elektrische voertuigen.

Met andere woorden, Hyundai zou de eerste oudere autofabrikant kunnen zijn die nu competitiever is met zijn elektrische wagens dan met zijn vuile plofauto's.

Het zal wel niet zo een vaart lopen met de electrificatie van personenwagens überhaupt.

Probleem is dat de hoeveelheid personenwagens veel talrijker is en de batterijcellen ook voor vele andere toepassingen moeten dienen, zoals tijdelijke opslag van hernieuwbare energie en het opvangen van stroomvraagpieken.

Meer dan honderd jaar geleden ging het wellicht veel sneller met de aflossing van paard en kar. Straatbeeld New York in 1900 en 13 jaar later in 1913.

Prima autoke om privé mee te rijden.
Verbruikt ongeveer 3 liter heerlijke diesel.
