Chiocchetti, voormalig assistent van Marcello Dell’Utri die voor banden met de maffia tot 7 jaar cel werd veroordeeld, zal de Europese ambtenarij gaan leiden. Om Chiocchetti op die plaats te krijgen was een heuse koehandel noodzakelijk.

Meanwhile, the EPP also weakened the criteria for the secretary-general post to ensure Chiocchetti would qualify.
