Insanity - 55 Years In Prison For Selling Marijuana

Twenty-five-year-old Weldon Angelos celebrated Christmas in federal prison this year ... just like he'll do every year until he's 80.

Last month, Angelos was sentenced to 55 years in prison for selling marijuana to undercover police officers. As U.S. District Judge Paul Cassell pointed out at sentencing, time tthat's more han he would have received if he had hijacked an airplane (25 years), beaten someone to death in a fight (13 years), or raped a 10-year-old child (11 years). :roll: :roll: :roll: :roll: :roll:

In fact, the maximum sentence for all those crimes combined is less than the federal mandatory minimum sentence for a drug felony involving a gun. (Angelos was carrying a gun at the time of his arrest, although he never brandished it or threatened anyone.)

The assistant U.S. attorney prosecuting the case justified putting Angelos -- a first-time offender and father of two -- behind bars for 55 years by saying that he was a "purveyor of poison" who got what he deserved. (The "poison" was marijuana, which has never killed anyone.)

Angelos isn't alone in having his life destroyed by the government's war on marijuana users:

Jonathan Magbie died three months ago while serving a 10-day sentence for marijuana possession in a jail in Washington, D.C. Magbie, a 27-year-old quadriplegic, used marijuana to treat his chronic pain. He was unable to breathe on his own, and the jail -- unequipped to meet his medical needs -- allowed him to die while in custody.

And last year, a 19-year-old Florida college student was brutally raped by his cellmate while serving the first of four weekends in jail for a small-scale marijuana offense.

And the year before that, 20-year-old Jose Colon -- just months away from being the first in his family to obtain a college degree -- was shot and killed by police in a raid in which eight ounces of marijuana were seized. Colon wasn't even a suspect. He just happened to be visiting the house being raided, and he had no drugs or weapons on him.

Every week, we at the Marijuana Policy Project confront extreme government abuses like these, as the war on marijuana users rages on, with the government arresting law-abiding citizens, seizing their property, locking them up for decades, and even killing them.

lol, er zullen wel meer junkies zijn dan moordenaars zeker in de Verenigde Staten, anders zou ik daar toch wel rap weg zijn ;)

vind de strafmaat idd ook overdreven in vergelijking met andere delicten.

wat ik wel goed vind aan het Amerikaanse strafsysteem zijn de cumulatieve straffen: als men hier 4 moorden pleegt, wordt dat eigenlijk aanzien als 1 feit waar men voor gestraft wordt. pleeg je nu 1 moord, 2 of 25, de straffen lopen niet ver uit mekaar. in de VS wordt je per moord veroordeeld. krijg je 4x15 jaar voor de 4 mensen die je hebt omgebracht, zal je 60 jaar lang binnenzitten..

De verklaring is heel simpel, ze zwaaien al met pistolen sinds ze het land van de indianen afpikten en als iemand dat wapen dan ook gebruikt kunnen ze er nog mee lachen.

Marihuana wordt in de meeste gevallen geïmporteerd en dat zonder belastingen te betalen, moesten ze die 11-jarige meiskes uit het buitenland importeren en doorverkopen dan zou er ook zwaar tegen aan gegaan worden. :-)

Zou kunnen dat de Amerikanen soms overdrijven in hun war against drugs. Maar anderzijds lees ik dit week-end in de Nieuwe Gazet dat een derde van de 15 tot 17 jarigen dit jaar ten minste een keer marijuana heeft gerookt. In hetzelfde artikel staat een anekdote over een moeder die vertelt dat haar zoon soms zo high was dat hij zijn volgende joint niet eens kon rollen.

Is dat de maatschappij waar je naartoe wilt, democratsteve?

The war on drugs was een scam. Ze hielden een "war on drugs" terwijl de CIA in grote hoeveelheden drugs in het land binnensmokkelde en nu waarschijnlijk nog doet. In de jaren 80 deden ze dat vooral langs Arkansas waar Bill Clinton Gouverneur was.

Dit is onder andere bekend gemaakt door Gary Webb... die 3 weken geleden zich "gezelfmoord" heeft, met 2 kogels in het hoofd (!). En in de weken voor zijn dood had hij mannen in pakken uit zijn huis zien wegvluchten toen hij thuiskwam...

Tja, bij jou is alles een scam. Zolang het maar in Amerika gebeurt.

En niets wijst op een onrustwekkend aantal excessen, of enig gevaar voor de mpij. Het overgrote deel van de gebruikers rookt gewoon af en toe eentje, no harm done. Al dat gevit en gemiereneuk...

Zoek op Gary Webb, en lees een beetje over zijn zelfmoord. En lees dan een beetje over de CIA die drugs invoert, en dan ook een beetje over Skull en Bones die rijk is geworden door drugshandel, waar ook uw idool president bij zit.

55 jaar cel is nog een vrij lichte straf. Drugdealers worden het best onmiddelijk verwijderd uit het menselijk bestaan.

Ik zou eerder de hersenloze racisten verwijderd willen zien, maar daar zal jij uiteraard niet zo voor te vinden zijn zekers? 8)

Die kerel heeft geen 55 jaar gekregen voor het dealen. Die straf is zo zwaar omdat hij gewapend was.

Dat heb ik niet gelezen in het artikel. Heb jij mss een andere krant gelezen, waarin dit wel stond vermeld? En zo ja, had hij een vergunning voor dat wapen?
En toch, als je de motivatie van de district autorny leest, leid ik daaruit toch wel degelijk af dat de "drugs" hier de reden waren.
