Putin orders Russian govt to hike military salaries by 20%

MOSCOW, Jan 24 (Prime-Tass) -- The Russian government should increase the salaries of the military personnel by 20% in the near future to help compensate for losses incurred from the ongoing reform of benefits, President Vladimir Putin told key ministers at his regular Monday meeting with them.

Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov said that the government will approve the pay hike at its meeting on Thursday.

Putin also ordered the Finance Ministry to increase student stipends, which are also financed from the federal budget.

Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin said that the stipends were scheduled to double on September 1 but that the ministry is ready to increase them gradually throughout the year.

Putin asked Kudrin to submit a relevant proposal by the end of Monday.

Earlier Monday ITAR-TASS reported, quoting the Defense Ministry that about 85% of Russian officers were not satisfied with the current benefits reforms and consider themselves worse off because of the reforms. End

:| mm, idd, ze bezitten van al die grondstoffen een onmetenlijke hoeveelheid...wat eerder een pluspunt is..ondertussen zijn sinds jeltsin al talrijke hervormingen doorgevoerd om gestolen staatseigendommen terug te krijgen en om het ondernemerschap te promoten...behalve in het geval van yukos..men punt is dat Rusland een enorm potentieel heeft en op de goed weg zit...niet?
