"L'immersion néerlandophone est prévue dès septembre �* l'école «La Buissonnière» �* Crisnée.

La rentrée rime, cette année, avec «Nederlands» �* l'école fondamentale «La Buissonnière» de Crisnée, près de Liège. L'établissement propose une immersion dans l'autre langue nationale en 3e maternelle et en 1ère primaire. «Il s'agit d'une immersion totale. Les enfants auront une vingtaine d'heures par semaine. Cela représente les trois quarts de leur temps», explique Raymond Degueldre, directeur de l'école. La localisation de l'établissement est une des raisons de l'adoption de ce «plan langue». «Nous sommes situés �* proximité de la frontière linguistique, �* seulement 12 kilomètres de Saint-Trond et de Tongres. Il nous a semblé naturel de proposer ce service aux parents, qui, par ailleurs, en faisaient la demande», commente le directeur.

Et concrètement?

Les enfants ont dorénavant deux instituteurs. L'un est néerlandophone et dispense donc les cours en néerlandais. L'autre instituteur est francophone. En maternelle, les enfants sont confrontés au néerlandais principalement dans des conversations. En 1re primaire, ils apprennent �* lire et �* compter dans cette langue. Le français retrouve sa place pour les cours de religion et d'éducation physique. Un soutien dans la langue maternelle est par ailleurs assuré. Et le directeur d'ajouter qu' «il est important d'avoir un instituteur pour chaque langue. Chacun dispose de son local personnel. L'enfant sait alors �* qui et quand parler français ou néerlandais». Tous les instituteurs de l'école sont bilingues, ce qui facilite l'échange des informations. C'est important. «Plus l'élève avance dans les années, explique M.Degueldre, moins il aura d'heures de néerlandais. Le but est que l'enfant maîtrise le néerlandais et obtienne son certificat d'études en français. Mais pour cela, il faut que les enseignants se parlent.»

Le directeur de l'établissement refuse la critique selon laquelle l'immersion crée des écoles élitistes. « Ces cours de néerlandais sont accessibles �* tous les enfants! Ils sont gratuits!» La seule restriction est liée au nombre limité de places: «Nous ne pouvons accueillir qu'un peu plus de 20 élèves par classe, et la plupart sont déj�* réservées aux anciens inscrits.»

Un hic: l'école ne compte qu'une seule 3e maternelle et 1ère primaire. Conséquence: si l'enfant ne s'adapte pas �* ce nouvel apprentissage, il devra changer d'école. «Mais ce cas de figure est exceptionnel. D'après mon expérience, les résultats sont plus que positifs!» ajoute M.Degueldre."

BRUSSELS — Despite ongoing linguistic friction between Wallonia and Flanders, bilingual education is booming in Francophone Belgian primary schools.

In 1999, there were just nine schools that gave part of their lessons in another language, but this will increase to 81 starting from the next school year.

The Dutch language is primarily gaining in popularity, the French-language newspaper 'La Libre' reported on Thursday.

A total of 60 schools are opting to give lessons in Dutch, 19 have chosen English and two have chosen German.

In 2004, just 54 primary schools were offering bilingual education or immersion in a foreign language.

Secondary schools are following the same trend, but are somewhat slower in introducing bilingual education.

In September, 11 schools in the French-speaking region will give bilingual classes.

Geographically, schools in the Luik region are especially opting for bilingual education, followed by the Henegouwen, Namen, Waals-Brabant, Luxemburg and Brussels regions.

Mooi, maar de flaminganten zullen weigeren iets anders dan Nederlands te lezen ;)

Ik vind dat ze dat in Vlaanderen ook moeten doen. Zo snel mogelijk. Al was het maar om de jeugd nog meer kansen te geven in de europese arbeidsmarkt.

Dan kunnen ze beter Engels leren!

Engels is op dit moment bezig met een ravage aan te richten in je geliefde Nederlands, Hyoens.

Let dus maar op met je wensen.

Er is een verschil tussen het Engels als taal aanleren en de overspoeling van angelsaksische leenwoorden in onze taal, schat!

Dus volgens jou moeten we ons onderwijs inrichten naar de eisen van de arbeidsmarkt?

Tsss, je geeft gewoon niets om de Vlaamse zaak, zeg het maar zo.

Engels krijgen ze al overdosis via TV, PC en radio.

Ik heb in ieder geval mijn engels niet op school geleerd.....

Ik dacht eerder om de intellectuele en motorische capaciteiten van de jeugd te ontwikkelen. Maar ik zal wel conservatief zijn in dat opzicht.

Echte engelsmannen worden alleen op de KUL gemaakt, hé Hyoens.
