Rumsfeld described Tehran as being "unhelpful"

US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has said weapons from Iran have been found in Iraq. [/size] [size=2]Mr Rumsfeld said it was "unhelpful" of Tehran not to have prevented them from crossing the border. [/size]

[size=2]He said the arms were "clearly" Iranian but refused to describe them or say how many had been identified. [/size]

[size=2]The flow of weapons to Iraq's insurgents from other countries has been a concern to the Americans for some time. [/size]

[size=2]Porous borders [/size]

[size=2]"It is true that weapons clearly, unambiguously from Iran have been found in Iraq," Mr Rumsfeld told reporters at a Pentagon news conference. [/size]

[size=2]"That's a big border and it's notably unhelpful for the Iranians to be allowing weapons of those types to cross the border." [/size]

[size=2]Mr Rumsfeld emphasised it was not clear who had procured or transported the weapons but he indicated he viewed them as a serious problem. [/size]

[size=2]"It's a problem for the Iraqi government," he said. "It's a problem for the coalition forces. It's a problem for the international community. And ultimately it's a problem for Iran." [/size]

[size=2]Some media reports have suggested that the weapons include sophisticated explosives that are finding their way into the hands of insurgents but there is as yet no independent confirmation of that. [/size]

[size=2]The American military believes that securing Iraq's borders against the flow of arms and foreign fighters will play a part in quelling the insurgency, particularly those insurgent groups that espouse religious extremism and draw manpower and support from abroad. [/size]

[size=2]Mr Rumsfeld's clear implication was that the Iranian government was not doing enough to help in that process.

Waarom zou Iran moeten helpen bij iets wat in essentie een Amerikaans-Iraaks probleem is? Als ze mij eerst uitmaken voor "evil", daarna mijn buurman terroriseren, zien dat het niet pakt, ... moet ik daarom maar zorgen dat de mollen in mijnen hof niet op het grondgebied van mijnen buurman raken?

Rumsfeld is op z'n eigen al een self-fulfilling prophecy als je het mij vraagt...

Inderdaad zoals het voorbeeld van de link tussen Irak en Al-Quada. Vandaag de dag is Al-Quada zeker aanwezig in Irak, maar het is maar de vraag of dit ervoor als was, over een self-fulfilling prophecy gesproken.

Ik ben er zeker van dat de Amerikanen nu zullen gaan aantonen dat ergens in Iran mensen zijn die hebben horen vertellen dat er ergens gezegd was dat men gehoord had dat iemand gezien had dat er ergens in Iran wapens in de grond zitten.

Het is enkel nog een kwestie van tijd voor men die mensen gevonden heeft.

Waarschijnlijk vinden ze Syrische wapens in Iran, enz...

En wat denken gelle ervan? Gaan ze vechten of gaan ze blijven zeiken?

Vechten zou tof zijn.

Ik hoop dat u dit niet meent, als ze Syrië of Iran gaan aanvallen, wordt de doos van pandora pas echt geopend. En dan klagen dat er nog meer aanslagen zullen volgen zeker??

Iran moet zeker niet helpen maar ook niet tegenwerken met hun geheime agenten en wapensmokkelaars. En 'evil' is een terechte naam voor het Iraans regime. Trouwens welk land maakt de VS al 25 jaar uit voor 'Grote Satan'? En het zijn niet de Amerikanen die hun buurman terroriseren maar Iraki's zelf en hun vreemde bondgenoten. Of is het de CIA die al die zelfmoordacties op touw zet?
