We will drink the blood of the Jews By Itamar Marcus and Barbara Crook - February 14, 2006 ![]() Each terrorist had a separate message for Jews. This first said, "My message to the loathed Jews is that there is no god but Allah, we will chase you everywhere! We are a nation that drinks blood, and we know that there is no blood better than the blood of Jews. We will not leave you alone until we have quenched our thirst with your blood, and our children's thirst with your blood. We will not leave until you leave the Muslim countries."The second terrorist said the following: "In the name of Allah, we will destroy you, blow you up, take revenge against you, [and] purify the land of you, pigs that have defiled our country... This operation is revenge against the sons of monkeys and pigs."One of the terrorists saw his death as a wedding with the Maidens of Paradise: "I dedicate this wedding [i.e. death for Allah] to all of those who have chosen Allah as their goal, the Quran as their constitution and the Prophet [Muhammad] as their role model. Jihad is the only way to liberate Palestine - all of Palestine - from the impurity of the Jews."The message to one of the terrorist's mother was instruction for her to be joyous over his death and his "wedding" with the "Maidens of Paradise." "My dear mother, you who have cared for me, today I sacrifice my life to be your intercessor [on Judgment Day]. O my love and soul, wipe your tears, don't be saddened. In the name of Allah, I've achieve all that I've aspired. Don't let me see you sad on my wedding day with the Maidens of Paradise. So be happy and not sad, because in the name of Allah, after death is merciful Allah's paradise."Included in the clip is the farewell scene between the mother and terrorist son while she helps him don his military vest. In the background one can hear the lyrics, "My dear mother, don't cry over us." Such words are eerily familiar to a music video that ran on Palestinian Authority Television for years, in which a boy asks his parents to be happy over his sought after death. Two lines from the music video ran, "My beloved, my mother, dearest to me mostPalestinian Media Watch has noted that on numerous occasions, the final messages of Palestinians that went on suicide missions reflected the messages they had been hearing in the Palestinian Authority media. You can view the music video by clicking here. After filming their goodbyes, the two Hamas suicide terrorists went to the Karni Crossing and killed an Israeli soldier. The clip includes scenes of preparation of a tunnel, and hiding explosives in the tunnel. Hamas placed the video on its website in February 2006 - after the Palestinian parliamentary elections. The terrorist act glorified in the video occurred over a year ago, on December 7, 2004. ![]() "My message to the loathed Jews is that there is no god but Allah, we will chase you everywhere! [Al-Intifada (Al-Hayat Al-Jadida supplement, December 11, 2000][/FONT] In the Palestinian Authority, Palestinian gunmen threatened European Union officials, the Palestine Religious Scholars Association has called for a boycott of Danish products and, in the most recent development, the Temporary International Presence in Hebron has been forced out of its premises by Palestinian violence. Palestinian Media Watch has documented numerous of cartoons from Palestinian Authority newspapers featuring extreme anti-Semitism, and we are redistributing a selection of them below. In response to numerous queries, Palestinian Media Watch would like to stress that there are no Arab caricatures insulting the Hebrew prophets or Jesus. This is for a simple reason - Islam presents the Hebrew prophets and Jesus as Muslims who prophesied Islam. They teach that both Moses and Jesus received Islam from Allah and that Jews and Christians later distorted these teachings. As such, Judaism and Christianity are said to be perversions of Allah's only true word - Islam. Thus Moses, Abraham, all the prophets of the Hebrew Bible and Jesus are respected Muslims and are not ridiculed. However Jewish and Christian symbols are frequently used, such as in the portrayal of Jews crucifying "Palestine" in the picture above. Jews appear in the Arab media as subhuman, cannibals and as various animals, such as snakes, scorpions and spiders – often posing some form of threat to humanity. This is according to a new video just released on the official Hamas Web site.Images of Israelis being evacuated from Gaza and destroyed Israeli buildings are shown while these words are sung: "The invaders fled. The army of the Jews has been defeatedThese last words - rejecting negotiations - are sung over the famous images of agreements being signed by Shimon Peres and Ariel Sharon with Palestinian leaders. While the words, the "homeland is returning," are sung, an image of the Israeli city of Haifa is displayed, stressing that the Palestinians see all of Israel as their "homeland" to be targeted. The words, "Let the enemies leave the entire land! And take their holy books which are all black," are sung while images of Jews in prayer are shown. The clear message to the Palestinian viewer is that the Gaza withdrawal is both the defeat of Israel through terror, and a precedent for the future. Accordingly, neither the Palestinians' means nor goals have changed: Violence and terror are seen as leading to Israel's continued withdrawals and eventual destruction. Seeing the Gaza withdrawal as a justification for terror is a dominant sentiment in the PA in general and another article appeared in today's PA daily expressing the same opinion: "The smashing victory of the Palestinian Isalmic resistance movement Hamas in the PLC elections... confirms that this people believes only in the option of resistance only, as a single way for the liberation of Palestine from the Zionist colonialism...The transcript of the clip The invaders fled [Gaza] ![]() New Hamas Internet Video A new Hamas video taken from their website includes the burning of a Star of David, along with the regular anti-Israel hate incitement.By Itamar Marcus and Barbara Crook - January 23, 2006 ![]() ![]() ![]() [Hamas website, January 23, 2006][/FONT] Click here to view the new video. What's additionally interesting is that this video is in English. ![]() Hamas Remains Hamas As the Hamas terror organization's rating in the polls rises daily, and with the PA elections just days away, the world media have been eager to report that Hamas has been presenting a more moderate image. Since 1993, the media have been repeatedly guilty of exaggerating Palestinian public relations messages of moderation, and presenting them as sincere changes in Palestinian ideology. However, this rush by the world media to crown Hamas as moderate is simply wrong.By Itamar Marcus and Barbara Crook - January 22, 2006 Mahmoud Al-Zahar, a senior Hamas official, appeared on a Palestinian Authority Television Hamas election ad and reiterated that there has been no change in the Hamas goal to destroy Israel. The unchanging Hamas religious ideology, that all of Israel is on Islamic land and therefore Islam demands it be destroyed, is stated unequivocally when Al-Zahar says, "Palestine is a land of Waqf [Islamic trust], which cannot be given up." Click here to view the Hamas TV election ad. The following is the transcript of part of the Hamas election ad: "We have a new plan; to teach men the land of Palestine; the geography of Palestine; the history of Palestine; and the history of the Arab and Muslim Nation. Our plan has nothing to do with the Israeli enemy. We do not recognize the Israeli enemy, nor his right to be our neighbor, nor to stay [on the land], nor his ownership of any inch of land. Therefore, we do not see [Israel] as an ally, not in policy, not in security, not in economy and not in any form of cooperation. Israel is an enemy who is interested in uprooting us, and we are interested in restoring our full rights to return all the people of Palestine to the land of Palestine. Our principles are clear: Palestine is a land of Waqf [Islamic trust], which can not be given up."Even before this broadcast, one had only to look at Hamas pre-election websites to see all the classic Hamas ideology - including the demand, based on religious belief, that all Israel must be destroyed through Jihad. The following are the messages on Hamas websites: [FONT=arial]1. Defining the goal of the conflict as "liberation of Haifa and Jaffa" and all of "Palestine" 2. The following is the transcript of part of the Hamas website video: Hamas website, October 2005 ![]() PA Poem: There is no Bin Laden A poem appearing on the opinion page of today's Al-Hayat Al-Jadida gives insight into the Palestinian Authority worldview. The blaming of Arab Muslims for Islamic terrorism, from Bin Laden to Al-Zarqawi in Iraq, is described as a fantasy invented by "occupation forces" to "justify war and disasters."By Itamar Marcus and Barbara Crook - January 16, 2006 The poet's questioning the existence of Bin Laden is consistent with a Palestinian denial of Arab Muslim responsibility for the World Trade Center Attacks. A 2003 public opinion poll revealed that only 46% of Palestinians believed that Bin Laden was responsible for the attacks against the US on September 11, 2001. Twenty-six per cent felt that Israel was behind the attacks. This refusal to acknowledge Muslim responsibility for Islamic terror is not unique to Palestinian society. A popular music video from Egypt, which you can view by clicking here, shows an animated cartoon image of Ariel Sharon pushing the button that sent the terrorists' planes crashing into the World Trade Center. This music video is exceedingly popular throughout the Arab world, and appears regularly on Arab satellite TV. Today's poem denies the existence of Arab-Muslim terror, and claims it is the West's justification for its wars against Arabs. Barakat Al-Fara of the PLO, formerly deputy to the Palestinian ambassador to Egypt, spoke in the name of the Palestinian factions. His speech stressed that the origin of the conflict with Israel is not Israel's control of Judea and Samaria (West Bank) but is Israel's existence. His speech included the denying of Israel's right to exist, using the term "Zionist enemy" four times and refusing to say the word "Israel." "The Zionist enemy" he said is "oppressive," the "Zionist oppression and aggression [is] supported by world imperialism," and that "the Zionist enemy ... does not know the language of peace." Israel pre-1967 is called the "thieving enemy" and he glorifies Fatah, who in 1965 planted "hope in the heart of the Palestinian nation" - stressing the basis of conflict was Israel's existence - before Judea and Samaria and the Gaza Stip were under Israeli administration. Former Egyptian Ambassador Muhammad Basyuni and Usama Al-Baz, political advisor of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, attended the ceremony. The following is from Barakat Al-Fara's speech at the ceremony: "Palestine, with its Al-Aqsa Mosque and its church, the Church of the Holy Sepulcher... Palestine, with its significant geographical location, its culture and its history - the Zionist oppression and aggression, supported by world imperialism, succeeded in occupying it and driving out its inhabitants... [in Israel's war of Independence - Ed.] ![]() Qadura Faras talks peace to Israelis and terror to Palestinians By Itamar Marcus and Barbara Crook - January 11, 2006 Palestinian Media Watch has for years documented the duplicity of the Palestinian Authority leadership, which sends a peaceful message to the world media and hate and terror message to its own people in Arabic. A new example was documented this week, involving Palestinian Legislative Council member Qadura Faras. Faras has been a prominent supporter of the "Geneva Initiative," an unofficial peace proposal drafted in 2003 by a group of leftist Israelis led by Yossi Beilin and Palestinians, and appears on the Geneva Initiative website, conveying a message of peace to Israelis. However, when Faras recently addressed Palestinians, he used his speech to honor and praise a terrorist who murdered 10 Israelis. He further spoke in memory of one he called a "Shahid" [martyr for Allah], a term that places blame for his death on Israel - even though he had died of cancer in an Israeli prison. Finally, he pledged to continue in the path of these terrorists. This is a totally different Qadura Faras than the one promoting peace on the "Geneva Initiative" web site. The following are the transcripts of these two irreconcilable messages - the first to Palestinians, and the second to Israelis. Faras addressing Palestinians: "[Palestinian] Legislative Council Member Qadura Fares ... spoke on behalf of the Fatah Movement. He emphasized the continuation of the struggle until the freeing of all of the Palestinian territories from the filth of the occupation, and establishing the independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital. Fares blessed the prisoners behind bars, and in particular mentioned the imprisoned fighter, "The Sniper" Tha'ir Hamed, who carried out the ... operation that led to the killing and injuring of several of the occupation soldiers. [In fact, three Israeli civilians and seven soldiers were murdered in the terrorist attack - Ed.]Faras addressing Israelis [Geneva Initiative website]: "It is always asked, do you [Israelis] have a partner on the other side. I am telling you with full sincerity, we are ready to reach an inclusive agreement with you, which will promise us freedom and liberty and statehood, and will promise you the thing we know you are sensitive to, which is your full right to live in peace and security. The question is: Are you ready for this?" ![]() Arab Knesset Member Dahamshe: Sharon is "butcher of the Palestinian people ... a criminal ... swimming in Palestinian blood." By Itamar Marcus and Barbara Crook - January 9, 2006As Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon lies unconscious after a massive stroke, an Arab member of the Israeli parliament, Abd' Al-Malik Dahamshe, maligned Sharon, as the "butcher of the Palestinian people," "a criminal" and a man "swimming in Palestinian blood." The statements came as part of a 'question and answer' session on Internet portal Islam Online. The session was entitled 'Middle East future without Sharon?,' based on the widely held belief that Sharon's political career is at an end. Reproduced below is the transcript of the first question. It is interesting to note that in another question, a participant from Egypt alluded to a century-old Zionist conspiracy. The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, long considered a blatant libel in the West. The question is noteworthy in that it shows the general acceptance of these lies as a result of constant incitement and propaganda. Question: "First of all the end of Sharon should not concern the Muslims. He was a butcher and part of a state which will not exist within the next 50 years. Partly due to the increasing Muslim population who have Israeli passports. If Israel is a true democracy then demographically the Muslims will outnumber the Jews and could vote out the zionist [sic] regime. My question is as the Muslim population within Israel increases will the Knesset experience a shift in its views?"MK Abd' Al-Malik Dahamshe: "I was honored by the United Arab List to enter the Knesset since 1996 [sic]. And since that time I have established a mosque inside the Knesset for me and other Muslims and named it the Mosque of Right. My first word in the Knesset was "By the Name of Allah." And I spoke in Arabic and I make sure that I speak in Arabic at least once a week. Of course this wasn't welcomed by many of the Jewish members of the Knesset. They wanted the Knesset without a mosque and without the Arabic language as it was tens of years ago before I represented the Islamic Movement in the Knesset, implementing in reality its slogan that "we are more capable to serve our people, this Palestinian national minority living in their towns and cities in the Palestinian Territories which is now part of Israel after it was establish in 1948. Who should be worried about Sharon's death? Yes, Sharon died, and became history even if he wasn't buried. Sharon spends his last days on earth, and he will have not effective political role after his sickness, as doctors keep him in vegetative situation living on machine's support [sic]. ![]() "Be gone. Die anywhere you like, By Itamar Marcus and Barbara Crook - December 29, 2005but don't die here." PA hate TV reaches new levels PA TV program on Jaffa (Tel Aviv): "It is time for you [Israelis] to be gone. Live wherever you like, but don't live among us. It is time for you to be gone. Die wherever you like, but don't die among us. We have the past here. We have the present, the present and the future. So leave our country, our land, our sea, our wheat, our salt, our wounds. Everything. And leave the memories."These words of hate are the parting moments of yet another program on Palestinian Authority television calling for the destruction of Israel. The words, calling for the expulsion of every last Israeli from Israel, are spoken while the screen is showing Jaffa-Tel Aviv, Israelis and Israeli flags. Official PA TV has aired this twice in recent months. The program about Jaffa opens with a revision of history, by casting the ancient Canaanites as Arabs. By doing this, the more than 3,000 years of Jewish history in the area are pre-dated by a fabricated Arab history. (The Arab Conquest actually took place in the seventh century of the Common Era.) Jaffa, a part of Tel Aviv, is defined as a Palestinian city, and all of Israel's coastal cities, Acre, Haifa, Caesarea, Ashdod, Ashkelon and Jaffa, are said to be situated in what is "known today as Palestine." According to this PA program, Israel is already non-existent. The final words of this television program are those of Israeli-Arab poet, Mahmoud Darwish, calling for the expulsion of every Israeli: "Die wherever you like, but don't die among us." The following is the transcript of the clip: "The Arab Canaanites established ports on the coast of the Land of Canaan, known today as Palestine. The ports were Acre, Haifa, ... Caesarea, ... Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gaza and Jaffa... ![]() Attacks in the US and Europe: Religious War against "Infidels" inherent to PA religious ideology By Itamar Marcus and Barbara Crook - December 26, 2005 A poll published this week and reported in Palestinian newspapers found that 65% of Palestinians "support Al-Qaeda actions in the USA and Europe." Religiously-motivated Al-Qaeda attacks against those referred to as "Infidels" have killed thousands of Americans and Europeans. Why would the Palestinian population so overwhelmingly support the murder of Christians? For years, the Palestinian Authority religious leadership has been presenting its war against Israel's existence as merely one part of its global Islamic war being fought against the Christian-Jewish West. Just last month, a PA TV religious leader, during a televised sermon, included this prayer for the killing of all Infidels: "Destroy the Infidels and the Polytheists! Your [i.e. Allah's] enemies are the enemies of the religion…! Count them and kill them to the last one, and don't leave even one."This prayer - clear incitement to the genocide of "Infidels," a term that includes the Christian West - is common from PA religious leaders. Prayers to annihilate all Infidels have been included in Friday prayers on PA TV at least six times in recent months. Presenting the destruction of the Christian-Jewish West as part of Allah's plan comes even from the highest religious powers, and receives the passive sanction of the highest political powers. Two of these sermons were delivered by Yusuf Jum'a Salamah, PA Minister of the Waqf and Religion - the most important religious office in the PA. Even though PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas was present on at least one of these occasions, similar prayers for genocide continued on the PA-owned and controlled TV in subsequent weeks. The Palestinian Authority religious leaders for years have routinely applied the term "Infidel" to the US and other countries with primarily Christian populations. The following are some recent and past examples: "The Infidel countries - first and foremost, the USA - have succeeded greatly in tearing our Islamic world apart..."View an excerpt of this sermon online here "The Infidel countries under the leadership of the US made up an excuse and justification to wage their dirty war [post 9-11 war in Afghanistan] against Islam and the Muslims.... Britain forgot that it is the height of terror and the height of hatred against Islam and Moslems."Hear an excerpt of this sermon here The following are recent dates of prayers for genocide against all Infidels on PA TV:
This week's European-sponsored poll, showing an overwhelming majority of Palestinians supporting the murder of Christians by Al-Qaeda, comes at a time when US and European financial and political support for the Palestinian Authority is very high and widespread. It seems that if Palestinians have to choose between appreciating the financial and political support of the US and Europe, or hating them because of religion, religion will win. This commitment to religious teachings among the Palestinian population is consistent with recent findings. In a poll this year, 79.9% of Palestinians want the PA to follow the Shari'a - Islamic religious law (68.6% wanted only Shari'a, while 11.3% wanted both Shari'a and laws of the PA Legislature). [Palestinian Center for Research and Cultural Dialogue, March 3, 2005] What is striking, though, is the willingness of Palestinians to turn against even the Western countries upon whom they are so totally dependent in order to progress. The poll underscores what Palestinian Media Watch has been documenting for years - the profoundly negative impact hate education has had on PA society. And whereas some in Western governments have tried to minimize the impact of the hate incitement, choosing to blame PA hatred solely on the ongoing conflict, this poll underscores the independent dangers of hate education. Palestinians are not in direct conflict with the US, and certainly have counted on the Europeans as active allies. And yet an overwhelming majority desire to see Europeans and Americans killed by a religion-based terror organization. This religious hatred seems to have nullified the potential positive impact of the hundreds of millions of dollars in US and European aid sent to the Palestinians, including substantial new grants this year. These results should serve as a warning to all those who have categorized PA religion-based incitement to hatred and genocide as "mere rhetoric." It seems that for religious populations like the Palestinians, religious teachings, seen as the word of Allah, are ultimately what determine attitudes and policy. [The poll was conducted by 'Fafo,' a Norwegian-based NGO, among the Palestinian population in order to assess political feelings after Israel's voluntary withdrawal from Gaza in late-summer 2005 and reported in Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, December 23, 2005] From PMW Archives: Past calls to destroy Christian/Western countries Dr. Ikrime Sabri, Mufti of Jerusalem, highest-ranking Islamic figure in the Palestinian Authority, weeks before the September 11 attacks: "O Allah, destroy America and its supporters and collaborators. O Allah, destroy Britain and its supporters and collaborators."Hear an excerpt of this sermon here Similarly Muhammad Ibrahim Maadi: "It is our obligation to prepare for the soldiers of Allah who are advancing in the will of Allah, glorified and praised... Allah willing... the oppressive country America will disappear. The oppressive country Britain will disappear..."View an excerpt of this sermon here This enmity is neither time nor event dependent, but is presented as part of Allah's plan. Indeed, the ultimate victory of Islam over the Christian-West is said to be predetermined: "The Palestinian nation is the strongest on earth... We [Muslims] have ruled the world and a day will come, by Allah, and we shall rule the world [again]. The day will come and we shall rule America. The day will come and we shall rule Britain."View an excerpt of this sermon here ![]() becomes Hamas candidate: Indicates value of terror in Palestinian society By Itamar Marcus and Barbara Crook - December 20, 2005 Transforming Palestinian society into one that unabashedly embraces terror has necessitated terror promotion at all levels of its social, educational and political infrastructure. One of the most important components has been the indoctrination of mothers to see the deaths of their sons as positive - even beneficial - for their sons and their family status. The Palestinian Authority has accordingly made it a principle to honor not only suicide terrorists but also the mothers who actively send their sons on suicide terror missions, as well as the mothers who express joy after their sons' Shahada - Death for Allah. A striking example of this glorification of mothers of terrorists is the case of Um Nidal, who has recently been chosen to be a candidate on the Hamas list in the upcoming Palestinian Authority parliamentary elections. ![]() ![]() To get a sense of the status in PA society of mothers who send their sons to die, note the way that even a self-proclaimed moderate like Sari Nusseibeh, president of Al-Quds University, addressed her during an interview. Um Nidal (explaining why she sent her son to die): "My son is not dearer than Islam. I have offered him as a gift and a sacrifice to Allah, may he be glorified, and to His true faith...." Sari Nusseibeh: "What comes to mind as I listen to sister Um Nidal is the verse 'Paradise is under the feet of the mothers'. Praise is due to this woman, and to every Palestinian mother..." [Al-Jazeera, July 14, 2002,http://www.aljazeera.net/channel/archive/archive?ArchiveId=90809] Um Nidal didn't stop at one son. She has proudly sent three of her sons to their death as terrorist shahids. Palestinian society has responded by dubbing her the "Al-Khansah of Palestine (see also http://www.palestine-info.co.uk/am/publish/article_15771.shtml). Al-Khansa is a a heroic figure from Islamic history who is glorified and revered solely for celebrating the deaths of her four shahid sons. The PA has underscored the importance of joyfully sacrificing sons for Allah in many different ways, including by naming five girls' schools - in Bethlehem, Jenin, Nablus, Khan Yunis and Rafah - after Al-Khansah, sending a clear message to young and impressionable girls about their future role as the mothers of shahids. Al-Khansah was also honored in the Palestinian Authority's recognition of International Women's Day in the form of a televised play and official sermon. Because of her status as a role model, Um Nidal is once again in the news. She has been chosen to be a candidate on the Hamas list in the upcoming Palestinian Authority parliamentary elections. It is striking, and indicative of the very nature of Palestinian society as one that accepts and values terror as a way of life, that a woman could be chosen to be a legislator solely by virtue of her celebration of her son's terrorism and death. The House resolution called for the PA to require all groups running in the elections to disarm and recognize Israel's right to exist. The official Palestinian Authority daily cartoons ridiculed the US demand to exclude terrorists as destroying democracy and interfering in PA affairs. The following are the two cartoons: ![]() ![]() [FONT=arial][Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, December 18, 2005][/FONT] Palestinian Authority Spokesman Nabil Abu Rudayna "called on the American government not to interfere with the decisions of the [PA] parliament as it impedes the peace process and is an obstruction to achievements of peace." [Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, December 19, 2005][/FONT] It should be noted that the various peace agreements the Palestinians have signed with Israel forbid terrorist groups such as Hamas from participating in parliamentary elections. The American concerns about an active terrorist group participating in a PA government have been rejected with derisive statements from Palestinian officials and media. This is despite the many hundreds of millions of dollars given by the EU and US to the Palestinian Authority. ![]() Armed struggle until destruction of Israel By Itamar Marcus and Barbara Crook - December 12, 2005 In a new Hamas pre-election video, the terror organization again declares that it will not give up its armed struggle until Israel is destroyed. The Hamas message likewise celebrates its love of death as superior to Israel's love of life. It also expresses support for those Israeli Arabs that wish to destroy Israel "from within." Hamas looks forward to a day when their flag will fly over not only Jerusalem, but over all Israeli cities, including Acre and Haifa. ![]() ![]() It will be interesting to see if the continuing Hamas election campaign calling for Israel's destruction will prompt a change in United States or European Union policy. Presently the US State Department has made clear that while it continues to transfer hundreds of millions of dollars of support to the PA, it will make no demands on it to prevent the Hamas from participating in the upcoming elections. The EU and United Nations have also agreed that Hamas can participate in the elections. The following are the words on the new Hamas video: "We succeeded, with Allah's grace, to raise an ideological generation that loves death like our enemies love life. We will not abandon the way of Jihad and Shahada [Martyrdom] as long as one inch of our holy land is in the hands of the Jews. ![]() Suicide Terrorist Families By Itamar Marcus and Barbara Crook - December 6, 2005 The Palestinian Authority yesterday revealed a new law that allocates money to family members of shahids, or 'martyrs.' A shahid is the highest honor attainable to a Muslim, and signifies a death for Allah. The Palestinian Authority regularly labels suicide terrorists as 'shahids.' Following the translation of the article is a list of some terrorist shahids honored by the Palestinian Authority. Under the new law, the families of these terrorists will receive monthly payments. The president has authorized the implementation of the financial clause of the Care of the Families of Shahids draft lawFrom PMW Archives Suicide terrorists are called shahids by the Palestinian Authority and, under the new law, their families will be receiving Palestinian Authority monthly payments. In August this year, Palestinian Media Watch revealed that the Palestinian Authority Ministry of Culture released, as its official 'Book of the Month,' a collection of poems named in honor of Hanadi Jaradat, a terrorist 'shahida' who murdered 21 people in Haifa's Maxim restaurant in October 2003. Likewise, on July 25 this year, the Palestinian Authority's official paper labelled as shahids two terrorists who were killed after murdering an Israeli civilian couple two days previously. Two weeks before that, Palestinian Media Watch noted that a course for women, sponsored by the Palestinian Authority's ruling party Fatah, had been named in honor of the first woman suicide bomber, the 'Shahida' Wafa Idris. This followed an established pattern of many years in which Idris has been honored by the Palestinian Authority - including in a "course in democracy and human rights." Details can be seen here. In July 2003, the Palestinian Authority organised a football (soccer) tournament named in honor of the suicide bomber 'shahid' that murdered 29 people on Passover Eve in Netanya's Park Hotel. Under the new law, the families of these murderers will receive money from the Palestinian Authority. ![]() on paper, praises in practice By Itamar Marcus and Barbara Crook - December 5, 2005 The Palestinian Authority continues to speak about terror with two voices. In English, it publicly condemns terrorists when attacks are committed, but its pronouncements in Arabic turn terrorists into heroes and role models for PA society. In PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas' Arabic-language condemnation of Monday's deadly suicide attack in Netanya, his reason for this condemnation is significant: "President Abu Mazen stresses his sharp condemnation of this act of terror... Today's terror attack against civilians causes great damage to our commitment to the peace process," he said, adding that those responsible would be arrested. ![]() ![]() [FONT=verdana]A sample of the Fatah On the surface, that Abbas condemned the terrorist attack might be welcomed by Western observers. But it must be noted that PA political leaders have always been careful to specify that they're not condemning terrorism because it's wrong, but rather because it hurts Palestinian interests. In this case, Abbas's denunciation of the attack refers to the damage it caused the PA, not to the terror victims and their families. terror promotion clip[/FONT] But even beyond this particular pattern of cleverly-worded condemnations, the policy within PA society continues to honor and glorify terrorists and turn them into role models. The case of the veneration of Fatah terrorist Al-Moayed Bihokmillah Al-Agha is a good example. When the PA opened the Rafah Crossing (between Gaza and Egypt) last week, many in the West saw it as a concrete step towards Palestinian statehood. For the PA, however, it was another opportunity to turn a murderer into a hero. Al-Agha was killed when carrying out an attack at the Rafah crossing, in which five Israelis were killed, in December 2004. The PA's ruling party Fatah features Al-Agha in a clip that glorifies violence and terror, and still shows the murderous attacks on its Fatah Falcons website a year after the attack. The American news network CNN's coverage of the crossing's reopening last month showed footage of a giant sign erected over the site, which declares the crossing's name to be in honor of the Shahid (Martyr) Al-Agha, and refers to his murderous attack with the thrilling name, "Volcanoes of Rage." That the PA allowed such a sign to be erected at the site is a powerful message to Palestinians, emphasizing once again that terrorists are heroes. The symbol, as well as an identical picture of Al-Agha, are more clearly seen on the following image, currently on the Fatah Falcons' website. ![]() ![]() [FONT=verdana][CNN, November 25, 2005][/FONT] [FONT=verdana]On the sign is the emblem of the Fatah Falcons, a terrorist sub-group of the ruling party of the PA. It includes: 1 - a map of the entire land of Israel; 2 - a silhouette of weaponry; 3 - an image of Jerusalem's Dome of the Rock. Combined, these three symbols are clear in their message: The ultimate goal is the destruction of Israel through violence. The Dome of the Rock adds a potent Islamic symbolism. This message has remained essentially unchanged since the formation of the PLO in 1965. Honoring terrorism This approach to creating terrorist heroes by naming infrastructures for them has long been a Palestinian Authority practice. Examples include:
