Bekende militante songs?

Ik vroeg me af wat jullie "strijdliederen" zijn. Ik hou het vooral op Ierse songs.

Ray Collins - INLA Freedom Fighters

I'll sing you of an army brave
Who fights from the cradle to the grave
The people will no longer be slaves
For the INLA freedom fighters.

Followers of Connolly
They fight to bring us liberty
Socialism we might see
With the INLA freedom fighters.

"Saoirse Go Deo" is our cry!
The Starry Plough our flag flies high!
England's tyranny we defy!
We're the INLA freedom fighters!

Rising throughout the land —
Connolly in head: gun in hand,
The working class will take a stand
With the INLA freedom fighters,

Fighting for the working class,
The priest condemns us at the Mass,
But this will not turn us from our task
As the INLA freedom fighters.

To meet the Tory tyrant's greed,
A volunteer a bomb did leave,
To kill the imperial Aire Neave
'Twas they — the freedom fighters!

Murder, torture, imprisonment,
Our movement is still not spent,
We vow to make our foes relent
We're the INLA freedom fighters.

The Brits try to criminalise
Our comrades, who on The Blanket lie,
Make sure that the fight does not subside;
We're the INLA freedom fighters.

Captured guerrillas to jail are sent,
Prisoners of war, their time is spent,
With heads unbowed and knees unbent —
One unbroken freedom fighter.

The news in 1981
A hunger strike for rights begun,
But an empty victory was won
For all the freedom fighters.

At British hands died Bobby Sands,
McCreesh and Hughes for the Five Demands,
O'Hara's death our symbol stands,
we're the INLA freedom fighters.

Aye on beneath our banners high,
To avenge our comrades who have died,
Let the fight go on as Patsy said
For the INLA freedom fighters.

I'll sing you of an army brave
Who fights from the cradle to the grave
The people they'll no longer slay
For the INLA freedom fighters .

Followers of Connolly
They fight to bring us liberty,
Socialism we might see
With the INLA freedom fighters.

"Saoirse Go Deo" is our cry!
The Starry Plough our flag flies high!
England's tyranny we defy!
We're the INLA freedom fighters!

Ronny G 15 maart 2006 01:06

RATM is natuurlijk een classic in het genre, maar probeer ook eens Anti-Flag, Los Fastidios, Billy Bragg, Choking Victim, Dead Kennedy's, Dropkick Murphys ("Wich side are you on?" Aanrader!), Terrorgruppe,...

verzetstrijder666 15 maart 2006 12:48

Groot-Links 15 maart 2006 23:16

Alles van Blaggers ITA, RATM, CRASS, DeadKennedys, Billy Bragg (The Internationale), Newtown Neurotics (Living With Unemployment), The Adjusters (Armstrong), Asian Dub Foundation, The Oppressed, Oi Polloi (Nazi Scum), Chumbawamba (Enough is enough, The Day The Nazi Died), Public Enemy
...

niet van die oubollige 1mei fanfare-muziek dus

O ja ook nog ons eigenste Calibre (... it makes us communards ...) vergeten.

imposter

[chorus:]
imposter - i am the torch at the gate
imposter - i am the switch in the grenade
imposter - i am the rush within the raid
imposter - aren't we all set to detonate.

the bulwarks have all shanties erased and we're all choking on the aftertaste
the cartels where destitution leads - enjoy the occidental stampede
these fraudulent defenders are all coming of age
extraneous endeavors to finalize their wage

[chorus]

ah worshipper of assets - the affiliate herd
and covered by the menace - we all inhale the dirt

ah the sum of all parts - makes us communards/ communards
ah the sum of all parts - makes us communards/ communards

1 i strip - my sleeve - and show my horrid scar
- rebellion is the blood that drips from this guitar
2 i lift - my shoes - and show my broken feet
- rebellion is the blood that pours down from this beat
3 i pull - my tongue - and show my bitter taste
- rebellion is the blood that trickles from this bass
4 i cut - my skin - and show my brittle bones
- rebellion is the blood that gushes from this microphone
5 ah - rebellion has to be / it has to be contagious
- because they try to do away with every last one of us
6 ah - rebellion has to be / it has to be contagious
- because they try to do away with all of us - all of us

(backings) the killer's holding office - yeah
he pulled our tongues - he broke our bones- na na na na

[chorus]8)

Black 47 - James Connolly

Marchin' down O'Connell Street with the Starry Plough on high
There goes the Citizen Army with their fists raised in the sky
Leading them is a mighty man with a mad rage in his eye
My name is James Connolly - I didn't come here to die

But to fight for the rights of the working man
And the small farmer too
Protect the proletariat from the bosses and their screws
So hold on to your rifles, boys, and don't give up your dream
Of a Republic for the workin' class, economic liberty

..

And now we're in the GPO with the bullets whizzin' by
With Pearse and Sean McDermott biddin' each other goodbye
Up steps our citizen leader and roars out to the sky
My name is James Connolly, I didn't come here to die...

James Connolly is -terecht- een ware legende in veel songs:
Wolfe Tones - James Connolly

A great crowd had gathered outside of Kilmainhem
With their heads all uncovered they knelt on the ground
For inside that grim prison lay a brave Irish soldier
His life for his country about to lay down.

He went to his death like a true son of Ireland,
The fireing party he bravely did face.
Then the order rang out: "Present arms, Fire!";
James Connolly fell into a ready made grave.

The black flag they hoisted, the cruel deed was over,
Gone was the man who loved Ireland so well,
There was many a sad heart in Ireland that morning,
When they murdered James Connolly, the Irish rebel.

God`s curse on you, England, you cruel hearted monster,
Your deeds would shame all the devils in Hell,
There were no flowers blooming but the Shamrock is growing
On the grave of James Connolly, the Irish rebel.

Many years have rolled by since the Irish rebellion,
When the guns of Brittania they loudly did speak,
The bold I.R.A. battled shoulder to shoulder,
as the blood of their bodies flowed down Sackville Street.

The Four Courts of Dublin, the English bombarded,
The spirit of freedom, they tried hard to quell
But above all the din rose the cry "No Surrender!"
`Twas the voice of James Connolly, the Irish Rebel.

Eire Og - Masters of War
Bekende cover van Dylan's anti-imperialistische song, maar moet er zeker niet voor onder doen! De oospronkelijke versie was als protest tegen de Vietnam-oorlog geschreven, Eire Og kan dit perfect toepassen op het Brits imperialisme.

Come you masters of war
You that build the big guns
You that build the death planes
You that build all the bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly

Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain

You fasten all the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
While the death count gets higher
Then you hide in your mansion
While the young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're DEAD

Een "blast from the past", maar toch een keigoed nummer met een wondermooie tekst: A Partisan van Leonard Cohen

When they poured across the border
I was cautioned to surrender,
This I could not do;
I took my gun and vanished.

I have changed my name so often,
I’ve lost my wife and children
But I have many friends,
And some of them are with me.

An old woman gave us shelter,
Kept us hidden in the garret,
Then the soldiers came;
She died without a whisper.

There were three of us this morning
I’m the only one this evening
But I must go on;
The frontiers are my prison.

Oh, the wind, the wind is blowing,
Through the graves the wind is blowing,
Freedom soon will come;
Then we’ll come from the shadows.

Les allemands e’taient chez moi,
Ils me dirent, signe toi,
Mais je n’ai pas peur;
J’ai repris mon arme.
J’ai change’ cent fois de nom,
J’ai perdu femme et enfants
Mais j’ai tant d’amis;
J’ai la france entie`re.
Un vieil homme dans un grenier
Pour la nuit nous a cache’,
Les allemands l’ont pris;
Il est mort sans surprise.

[the germans were at my home
They said, sign yourself,
But I am not afraid
I have retaken my weapon.
I have changed names a hundred times
I have lost wife and children
But I have so many friends
I have all of france
An old man, in an attic
Hid us for the night
The germans captured him
He died without surprise.]

Oh, the wind, the wind is blowing,
Through the graves the wind is blowing,
Freedom soon will come;
Then we’ll come from the shadows.

Ja, dat klopt: "I learned this from a friend when I was 15. He was 17. His father was a union organizer. We were working at a camp in Ste Margeite, Quebec. We sang together every morning, going through the People's Song Book from cover to cover. I developed the curious notion that the Nazis were overthrown by music."
