The inter-Palestinian tensions which saw 11 people killed over the past two days continued Tuesday as militants loyal to the Fatah party of President Mahmoud Abbas threatened to kill senior leaders of the rival, governing Hamas movement.
Leaflets distributed in the West Bank and signed by the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, Fatah's semi-official armed wing, said it held Damascus-based Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal, Hamas Interior Minister Said Siam and the head of the Hamas-led security force Yousef al-Zahar responsible for the violence of the past days.
Its militants would therefore assassinate the three, the leaflets warned.
"Al-Aqsa Brigades state very strongly and clearly that it will carry out the people's judgement at home and abroad to execute the heads of the internal strife, Khalad Mashaal, Said Siam and Yousef al-Zahar," threatened the leaflet.
