But remember: upon entering Amsterdam, you’re entering civilization. You should never disclose your true identity to the locals or tell them where you come from. If you happen to live in Rotterdam, you will be instantly threatened by death, for example. If you happen to live in the southern part of the Netherlands, people in Amsterdam will tell you you actually live in Belgium. And if you happen to come from Belgium itself, things are even worse. You will be considered to be a stupid moron, people will compare you with a pig, explain to you where Japan is (because I suppose they think that someone from Belgium is unaware of the existence of Japan), and pretend not to understand what you are saying. If you say something in Dutch to them, no matter how flawless your accent is, people from Amsterdam will immediately switch to a strange linguistic system of German sounds they call “English” for some reason.
