Akkoord dat het modereren van een discussieforum een moeilijke evenwichtsoefening is. Hier op p.be is dat wellicht niet anders.

En kinderporno als ultiem extreem voorbeeld is normaal gezien zeer verhelderend. Maar in het specifieke geval van twitter.com is het wel bijzonder ongelukkig gekozen. Ook al had het bedrijf pre-Musk zo'n 7500 medewerkers, ze slaagden er niet in om kinderporno weg te houden van hun platform:

But that did little to change the problem at hand — one that employees from across the company have been warning about for over a year. According to interviews with current and former staffers, as well as 58 pages of internal documents obtained by The Verge, Twitter still has a problem with content that sexually exploits children. Executives are apparently well-informed about the issue, and the company is doing little to fix it.

“While the amount of CSE online has grown exponentially, Twitter’s investment in technologies to detect and manage the growth has not,” begins a February 2021 report from the company’s Health team. “Teams are managing the workload using legacy tools with known broken windows. In short (and outlined at length below), [content moderators] are keeping the ship afloat with limited-to-no-support from Health.”

Employees we spoke to reiterated that despite executives knowing about the company’s CSE problems, Twitter has not committed sufficient resources to detect, remove, and prevent harmful content from the platform.

Earlier this year, NCMEC accused Twitter of leaving up videos containing “obvious” and “graphic” child sexual abuse material in an amicus brief submitted to the ninth circuit in John Doe #1 et al. v. Twitter. “The children informed the company that they were minors, that they had been ‘baited, harassed, and threatened’ into making the videos, that they were victims of ‘sex abuse’ under investigation by law enforcement,” the brief read. Yet, Twitter failed to remove the videos, “allowing them to be viewed by hundreds of thousands of the platform’s users.”

Fast forward naar het Musk-tijdperk. Twitter heeft slechts een fractie van het aantal medewerkers t.o.v. een paar maand geleden. Niet alleen blijven hun servers desondanks draaien en in topvorm maar ook ... het kinderporno probleem wordt eindelijk aangepakt!

Wow! The most popular hashtag used to sell child sexual abuse material on Twitter is almost completely cleaned out.

I’m not going to post the hashtag for obvious reasons but if any organization, law enforcement or journalist wants me to send them the hashtag information I will. It’s public information but I don’t want to broadcast it because there are still 3 old tweets available.

Correction, the THREE biggest hashtags used by child abusers selling child sexual abuse material on Twitter have virtually been eliminated!

To those who aren’t aware yet, last week Twitter did add a direct reporting option for child sexual exploitation. (ONLY on tweets with content images/videos) this was not previously available and was a separate form that wasn’t easy to find.

I’m grateful to see these changes.

It had 10 Million collective views.
