De verschrikkelijke gevolgen beginnen al flink voelbaar te worden voor
de armeren:

"According to the US Census Bureau, from 2000 to 2004 the number of
people living in poverty in United States increased by 5.4 million
people, going from 31,6 million to 37.0 million; of which 36% or over 13
million were children. According to Martha Burt, principal research
associate in the Urban Institute's Center on Labor, Human Services and
Population, during a year about 10% of these people or close to 3.7
million people will experience homelessness."
