China's top legislature ratifies treaty on national borders with Vietnam and Laos
China's top legislature on Wednesday ratified a treaty defining the point where the national borders of China,
Vietnam and
Laos meet.
The treaty, which was signed last October by the foreign ministries of the three countries, says the tri-border junction lies on the Shiceng Dashan Mountain.
The three countries plan to erect a boundary stone at the point and they have agreed that the location, shape and specifications of the stone must not be changed without prior agreement, according to the treaty, passed at the 26th session of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (
NPC).
No other boundary stones should be erected at the point, the treaty says.
The NPC Standing Committee approved China's bilateral boundary treaty with Vietnam in 1991 and with Laos in 2000.
The legislature said the new treaty would help maintain stability in the border area and strengthen China's relations with Vietnam and Laos.

Hoewel de VS een poging doet om China te 'containen', doet China er alles aan om die inspanningen teniet te doen. Hoewel de VS een strategisch samenwerkingsakkord met India heeft afgesloten, blijken de Indiërs ook duidelijk interesse voor China te tonen. Voorts kan men aan te indruk van een neo-socialistisch blok niet ontsnappen. Bovenstaand bericht is hier maar een facet in. Weer een nieuw akkord met de communisitsche landen, Vietnam en Laos. Met de DPRK en Mongolië bestaan ook goede relaties, alook met het nu bijna Maoïstische Nepal. En Rusland niet te vergeten. Of de rode broeders in Zuid-Amerika. Dit voorspelt weinig goeds voor het Westen. Maar dat zijn onze prioriteiten blijkbaar niet.
