gaan Sjoerd!

But, let's actually look at what it's saying: that a) rape in Norway is at
an all-time high, and b) immigrants are the cause of it, and c) officials
are pretending that it isn't so. < > Quoting a December 12th 2006 article
in Aftenposten (http://www.aftenposten.no/english/local/article1567514.
ece), the number of rape cases in Oslo is skyrocketing this year (2006).
However, he then uses statistics from *2001* to say that 65% of rapes
committed were perpetrated by men of "a non-western background"
(http://www.aftenposten.no/english/local/article190268.e ce.) Now, if crime
statistics had remained flat for the last six years or so, then maybe these
earlier numbers might be relevant. However, since they haven't, there's no
reason to think that these numbers are still accurate (the percentages could
be higher or lower.) Applying statistics from one year to data from an
entirely different year with different conditions is very sloppy, very
unprofessional "journalism".

So, just for a second, let's look at those statistics from 2001, and see
what we can learn about the situation in Oslo
(http://www.aftenposten.no/english/local/article190268.e ce.) In the
article, they state that the rate of rape in Oslo in 2001 was six times
higher than in New York City. Now, that's quite a statement -- something is
clearly wrong here with Oslo. So, let's examine these statistics more
carefully, and see what can be learned from them. Non-European perpetrators
accounted for 65% of all rapes in Oslo in 2001, but account for 14.3% of the
population. Consequently, Native Norwegians and other Europeans accounted
for 45% of all of the rapes, and make up 85.7% of the population. Indeed, if
you do the math (divide the share of rapes by the share of the population),
the frequency of rape by non-Europeans in that time period is four and a
half times higher than the city average, which means that Norwegians and
other Europeans committed rape at a rate that was half the city average. As
a result, this still means that those blond haired, apple-cheecked Norwegian
men are three times more likely to commit rape than their New York
counterparts. Interesting, no? I would say that this shows that some very
disturbing social trend was/is taking place in Oslo, and blaming foreigners
is ignorant at best, and malicious at worst.

The other thing that's worth examining is the effect in other major European
cities. More than a few have substantial non-European minorities living in
them; do they also have rape rates that are six times higher than New York
City, or is there something else going on here?
