Het verzet in Ierland op dit moment wordt gevoerd over:
1. gebrek aan Ierse invloed in Europa als het land zijn commissaris verliest voor 5/15 jaar.
2. Ierland wordt benadeelt bij de invoering van het nieuw "qualified majority voting"-systeem.
3. het land zal niet meer neutraal mogen blijven omdat het Verdrag een zogezegd "mutual defence pact" oplegt.
4. for all you Catholics and oer-conservatieven out there, het Verdrag goedkeuren zal leiden tot de invoering/opleggen van abortus, euthanasie, homo-huwelijk en alles wat tegen de zin van Humanae Vitae is.
Een paar citaten van stemgerechtigden uit Sligo die in The Irish Times verschijnen vandaag:

"I'm here for the Lord," she says, expressing concerns that the treaty will bring "abortion, euthanasia, homosexual marriage, that are totally against our Catholic beliefs".
