Standaard Going Dutch - Dutch courage

Going Dutch is a slang term that means that each person eating at a restaurant or paying admission for entertainment pays for himself or herself, rather than one person paying for everyone. It is also called Dutch date and Dutch Treat.

The phrase Dutch courage is a slang term for courage gained from intoxication by alcohol. It is synonymous with liquid courage. The term is purported to have its origins in the battles of the seas where the Dutch navy is said to have been feared among all other navies (especially among the later rival, the British navy) due to its true courage.
