Standaard Hoeveel haat gaat er verscholen achter religieuze opvattingen?

Hoeveel haat gaat er verscholen achter religieuze opvattingen? Te veel.(Engels)
How much hate is hidden behind claims of religious belief? Too much
Isn’t it interesting that I cannot get away with saying, “If you stop me from insulting homosexuals it violates my freedom of prejudice,” but I can get away with: “It violates my freedom of religion.” Where is the difference?

We recently went through the saga of the Rev. Fred Phelps and his “cult,” but their ridiculous rhetoric is not far behind.

Comments that “AIDS is not just God’s punishment for homosexuality; it is God’s punishment for a society that tolerates homosexuals.”

There are homosexuals within all religions, and calling any scripture the “word of God” immediately lays the groundwork for prejudice, divisiveness and bloodshed. Religious texts are like inkblot tests. The myths people construct from reading them are the words of human beings, and are neither holy nor unholy.

As Ayn Rand once said, “I fear that religious mythology has frozen logic and the ability to reason in most people.”
