Je kunt goed zien dat de motivatie/drijfveer om te veranderen en de bijbehorende ideologie volledig vanuit de politiek afkomstig is en niet vanbinnen de beroepsgroep, terwijl je zou verwachten dat het omgekeerde het geval zou moeten zijn. De psychiatrie lijkt in alle opzichten de beoogde veranderingen tegen te werken/belemmeren.

With a balanced mental disposition, people are more effective in coping with the stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully and are better able to make a positive contribution to their communities. I am delighted to welcome this Report, aptly titled A Vision for Change, which sets out a comprehensive policy framework for our mental health services for the next 7-10 years.
I established the Expert Group on Mental Health Policy in August 2003 in recognition of the need to review longstanding policy in this area and to formulate a blueprint for a modern, comprehensive, world-class service to meet the mental health challenges facing our society - not least of which is our significant suicide rate, particularly among young people.
I was convinced from the outset that a collaborative approach between service users and carers, professionals and health service providers represented the best way forward and I appointed the Expert Group accordingly.
I am delighted to see that this approach has borne fruit and that A Vision for Change has been endorsed by all the members, without exception.
This Report proposes a framework of mental health service delivery with the service user at its centre. The emphasis is firmly on recovery and on facilitating active partnerships between service users, carers and mental health professionals. Its recommendations are innovative and some of them are challenging. However, I have no doubt that their implementation will bring about farreaching change and modernisation in the Irish mental health services, which will be to the benefit of everyone concerned.
The Government’s on-going investment in communitybased mental health services, the legislative reforms of the Mental Health Act, 2001 and the publication of this Report all confirm that the area of mental health is now receiving the attention it deserves. I am hopeful that these developments will facilitate further advancements within our services and that the lives of those who suffer mental illness, and their families, will be improved and enhanced by our efforts.
I would like to thank the Chairperson of the Expert Group, Professor Joyce O’Connor, all the members of the Group and the associated support staff for their tireless work and commitment to this task over the past two and a half years. I have no doubt that this fine Report will have a significant influence on the development of our mental health services into the future.

In Amerika was dat net zo. Je ziet heel goed dat de Amerikaanse politiek de drijvende kracht achter het tegengaan/aan banden leggen van fraude en malafide psychiatrische praktijken is geweest, en ook direct de strijd is aangegaan met de beroepsgroep (APA):

De intentie is waar het mee begint en die is duidelijk niet goed in de psychiatrie als de politiek er op eigen initiatief aan pas moet komen om het welzijn van mensen te beschermen tegen praktijken als '
jaren achtereen isoleercel voor onschuldige mensen' (
een VVD-kamerlid hierover).
Psychiatrie is corrupt vanuit de kern want het is gebaseerd op de onzinnige kern-hypothese dat alles dat wij zijn, ons gedrag en ons denken, het gevolg is van een toevallig biochemisch proces in de hersenen.
Op basis van die hypothese zijn namelijk de hersenstoornis-hypothesen gebaseerd op basis waarvan een psychiater medicijnen kan voorschrijven die financieel in het voortbestaan van de beroepsgroep voorziet.
