Extreme weather caused by jet stream flows halt – scientists

The simultaneous flooding in Pakistan, wildfires in Russia and landslides in China are evidence that the so-called atmospheric jet stream flows have been blocked by the oncoming winds, British climatologists said on Wednesday.

In an article in the New Scientist magazine, their explained that the past few weeks have seen a change in the jet stream’s normal pattern. Its waves normally shift east, dragging weather systems along with it. But in mid-July, they came to a halt, creating the perfect conditions for extreme weather.

The statement flies in the face of previous caveats which cited climate change as something that added significantly to extreme weather events in China, Pakistan and Russia.

Raar dat ze het nooit meer hebben over de invloed van de Jetstreams op het weer.
