IRON LADY:
What is the consensus of her rule as prime minister of Britain?
Saw it yesterday, completely awed by the approach, but I reminded myself a few times that I did not like her politics. What is the consensus of her rule as prime minister of Britain? Did she leave Britain in a better shape then when she took office? The movie is sensitive to show Thatcher as a person, a woman, a fighter and a winner. Everything we know is in the movie, not really taking sites but showing everything as how she saw it. Clearly a tour de force for Meryl Streep in bringing Margaret Thatcher to live, even wearing false teeth to create the look of an aging woman. The makeup was better then those of J.Edgar, which in the case of his lover Clyde Tolson was so overdone and distractive. A handsome man does not have to turn into some plastic monster. But aye, historical movies make me nervous as I’m constantly asking: is this true? And ‘How do they know that?’ Iron Lady also showed the struggle against the Euro. And recently History Today presented an article that compared Britain’s recent defection from the Euro zone as akin to Henri VIII’s defection from Rome. This article compares the European Court of Justice with the ecclesial courts of Rome during the fifteen century, when British cases regarding church law were decided in Rome. This causes a lost of national sovereignty, backlog and uncertainty. Just as, this article claims, present British cases pending in the European High Court do. Thatcher in this movie, during one of her famous hand bagging sessions, urges the ministers of her government who liked the French proposals to take the boat and move to France, buying themselves a French baret.
