Foal Eagle (hangul: 독수리 연습) is an annual combined Field Training Exercise (FTX) conducted between the Republic of Korea (ROK) and United States armed forces under the auspices of Combined Forces Command (CFC) within the Korean Theater of Operations (KTO). It is one of the largest military exercises conducted annually in the world. While defensive in nature and conducted primarily as a rear area security and stability training exercise, Foal Eagle has been a source of friction with the government of Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and domestic ROK critics.

YONGSAN GARRISON, SEOUL, Republic of Korea – The Republic of Korea Joint Chiefs of Staff and Republic of Korea - United States Combined Forces Command announced today the U.S. and ROK forces will conduct Exercise Foal Eagle March 1-April 30.

Combined exercises are essential to ensuring the readiness of our combined forces. Exercise Foal Eagle, as an annual combined and joint unit tactical field training exercise, provides valuable military training based on realistic requirements and missions expected of ROK and U.S. forces here on the Korean Peninsula.

Foal Eagle is a series of 20 separate but inter-related joint and combined field training exercises conducted by Combined Forces Command and U.S. Forces Korea components spanning ground, air, naval, expeditionary, and special operations. The exercises include both US and ROK forces and they are the culmination of many months of planning.

Approximately 10,000 U.S forces along with ROK military personnel will participate in Exercise Foal Eagle. The majority of the U.S. participants are coming from outside the ROK. The exercises are designed to enhance the security and readiness of the Republic of Korea and are deterrent in nature.

The United Nations Command Military Armistice Commission informed the Korean People's Army through its Panmunjom Mission of the exercise dates and the non-provocative nature of this training.

Training exercises like Foal Eagle are carried out in the spirit of the Oct. 1, 1953, ROK-U.S. Mutual Defense Treaty and in accordance with the Armistice.
