First, Al Salafi’s ability to effortlessly enter into Syria through NATO-member Turkey and then escape back to Pakistan, again, via Turkey confirms that the source of IS’ strength is not only captured Syrian oil fields or ransoms paid in exchange for hostages, but rather from a torrent of fighters, arms, equipment, and cash, transaction for which are globally distributed to avoid leaving any trails behind.

De grote vraag is dus wat 'het westen' eigenlijk wil. Het is niet dat ze onbekwaam zouden zijn IS aan te pakken, zoals Rusland dat succesvoller doet. het is een kwestie van niet willen. Meer zelfs. De financiering van IS gebeurt met steun vanuit voornamelijk westerse bondgenoten. Waarom wil 'het westen' (walgelijk begrip eigenlijk) daar niets aan veranderen? Waarom stéég de financiering van IS zelfs gedurende het jaar dat de VS coalitie IS zogezegd bestreed? Waarom kan IS nog steeds olie produceren en uitvoeren naar Turkije? Het is niet dat men dit niet KAN stoppen. Zo achterlijk zijn de Amerikanen niet. Het is dat men dit niet WIL stoppen.
Bovenstaand artikel werpt wat meer licht op deze realiteit. Natuurlijk dat men het niet meer snapt als men enkel de westerse media volgt. De tegenstrijdigheden lopen de spuigaten uit. En een diepgaandere analyse wil men niet maken. Te schaamtevol.
Zolang Rusland niet tevens in Irak kan opereren zal het een hopeloze strijd voeren tegen IS vermoed ik. In Irak heeft IS een save haven, ondanks dat ze daar zogezegd bestreden worden door een coalitie van 60 landen. De Iraakse regering laat steeds meer haar frustratie blijken over deze schijnoorlog tegen IS, maar is tot nu toe niet in staat gebleken te weerstaan aan de druk vanuit Washington om Rusland niet toe te laten IS te bestrijden op Iraaks grondgebied.
De oplossing voor IS ligt eigenlijk voor de hand. De financiering afsnijden. Wie kan dit doen?...

However, if the US does want to avoid such a scenario, it will have to develop a comprehensive strategy to bock IS’ financial resources. Russia cannot be expected to do the task because IS (and other terrorist organizations as well) operates through the Western banking system which is largely under the control of the United States of America.
