Quod licet Iovi, non licet bovi
NATO Secretary General
Jens Stoltenberg declared on January 26 the response of NATO and the United States to the Russian security demands:
"We are ready to listen to Russia's concerns and have a real conversation about how to maintain and strengthen the basic principles of European security, which we all signed – starting with the Helsinki Final Act. This includes
the right of each nation to make its own security arrangements. Russia should refrain from the use of coercive measures, aggressive rhetoric and malicious activities against allies and other nations.“
And:
"We have made it clear that we will not compromise on some basic principles. And one of them, of course, is that every nation has the right to choose its own path. So NATO respects a country or a nation when they decide to apply for NATO membership, such as Ukraine, or when they decide not to apply for NATO membership, as Finland and Sweden have done. It is
therefore a question of respecting the right to self-determination.“
In the same spirit, US Secretary of State
Antony Blinken had expressed himself on January 26:
"We make it clear that there are core principles that we are obliged to uphold and defend – including the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and the
right of states to choose their own security agreements and alliances.“

Nu ja. Ik schat dat kritische mensen al wel wisten dat Stoltenberg en Blinken logen toen ze die uitspraken deden.
