Hemp produces the most biomass of any crop, which is why it is the natural choice for an energy crop. Hemp converts the sun's energy into cellulose faster than any other plant, through photosynthesis. Hemp can produce 10 tons of biomass per acre every four months. Enough energy could be produced on 6% of the land in the U.S. to provide enough energy for our entire country (cars, heat homes, electricity, industry) -- and we use 25% of the world's energy.
To put which in perspective, right now we pay farmers not to grow on 6% (around 90 million acres) of the farming land, while another 500 million acres of marginal farmland lies fallow. This land could be used to grow hemp as an energy crop.

ps: ik heb ook de site bezocht (Welkom op Kernenergie!) - ziet er goed uit, maar misschien ietske te enthousiast en soms te veel cijfergegevens en rationele techniek in de tekst. Misschien een beetje meer aandacht op de filosofie en niet zo zwaar dat anti-groen verhaal (je kunt dingen niet ont-uitvinden, dus geef de groene fundi's toch ook ergens zicht op een soort 'reservaat', dan kun je tenminste het 'pas u aan of verhuis' -argument nog als uitweg bieden. |
Yeah right die blowers blazen toch alle cijfers van hun plantje waar ze zo verliefd op zijn in de hemel. Niet te doen.
Nee het is simpel: als een zonnepaneel 20% zonneenergie rendement haalt per hectare , haalt een plant zeker geen 6%. Het is ook logisch. Fotosynthese pakt maar een deel van het spectrum, en plantjes groeien niet in de winter... Dus nee zeker weten, je kunt beter gans belgie volleggen met zonnepanelen, je zult meer rendement hebben.
