Vervolg. - De vader van Jezus.
Zoals reeds gesteld in de voorgaande post, het is ongewoon dat Josephus wanneer hij Jezus noemt niet schrijft "Jezus zoon van ...". In de Vita noemt hij maar enkele personen met de naam Jezus. Als het een belangtijk persoon is dan noemt hij de naam van zijn vader.
Een samenvatting van de naam Jezus in de Vita.
... So Jesus, the son of Sapphias, one of those whom we have already mentioned as the leader of a seditious tumult of mariners and poor people.
Hij noemt hem daarna een aantal keren alleen nog Jezus, maar als hij hem typeert schrijft hij: "And it was Jesus, the son of Sapphias, who principally set them on. He was ruler in Tiberias: a wicked man; and naturally disposed to make disturbances in matters of consequence."
Twee maal noemt hij een Jezus in een opsomming zonder naam van de vader en dan: "he persuaded the High Priests, Ananus, and Jesus, the son of Gamala, and some others of the same seditious faction, to cut me down".
40) But when they heard that there was a certain Galilean, that then sojourned at Jerusalem, whose name was Jesus; who had about him a band of six hundred armed men; they sent for him, and gave him three months pay; and gave him orders to follow Jonathan, and his companions, and be obedient to them. Hier niet de naam van de vader maar de geografische duiding "Gallilean".

Als bij belangrijke figuren de naam van de vader wordt genoemd dan moet dat natuurlijk ook gebeuren bij de messias.
