De toename van de bevestigde besmettingen loopt met een vertraging van 21 dagen gelijk met de toename van de terrasbezoeken en de terugkomst van toeristen uit het buitenland.
Integenstelling tot wat verkondigd word, liggen de oorzaken van de nieuwe uitbraak niet bij de horeca binnen, maar bij de terrasjes buiten.

Spanje

A variant of SARS-CoV-2 emerged in early summer 2020, presumably in Spain, and has since spread to multiple European countries. The variant was first observed in Spain in June and has been at frequencies above 40% since July. Outside of Spain, the frequency of this variant has increased from very low values prior to 15th July to 40-70% in Switzerland, Ireland, and the United Kingdom in September. It is also prevalent in Norway, Latvia, the Netherlands, and France.

A coronavirus variant that originated in Spanish farm workers has spread rapidly through much of Europe since the summer, and now accounts for the majority of new Covid-19 cases in several countries — and more than 80 per cent in the UK.

Their work suggests that people returning from holiday in Spain played a key role in transmitting the virus across Europe, raising questions about whether the second wave that is sweeping the continent could have been reduced by improved screening at airports and other transport hubs.
