Tesla Model X with FSD beta drives itself to service center with no interventions

February 18, 2021

When Tesla achieves its autonomy targets and rolls out the full-featured version of its Full Self-Driving system, the idea of electric cars driving themselves to their respective service appointments may very well be the norm. The current iteration of Tesla’s FSD Beta is not fully autonomous yet, but the system already achieved such a feat recently, when a Model X drove itself from its owner’s home to a service center with zero interventions.

The drive, which was shared on YouTube, was posted by John, a Tesla Model X owner and the founder of the Tesla Owners of Silicon Valley group. According to the electric vehicle advocate, his Model X, which was running FSD beta 8.1 (2020.48.35.1), had a service appointment. This presented an opportunity to see if the current iteration of the FSD beta could handle a drive from a residential area to the Tesla service center.

As could be seen in the trip’s footage, FSD beta 8.1 was able to handle the entire trip without requiring a single human intervention. Granted, traffic was light in a good number of the roads that the FSD beta traveled on, but the feat was impressive nonetheless. It did, if any, provide a glimpse at how Tesla owners in the future could simply have their vehicles drive to their respective service appointments on their own. Such a concept would make the Tesla ownership experience even more convenient.

Tesla’s FSD beta has gone through numerous iterations since it was launched to its first batch of testers in late October last year. Since then, the advanced driver-assist system has become progressively better, with recent iterations behaving almost like a cautious human driver. This was exhibited in a drive through San Francisco’s streets when the FSD beta had to deal with several skateboarders who decided to counterflow while the system had the right of way.

The FSD Beta’s safety was something highlighted by Elon Musk during his conversation with automotive teardown expert Sandy Munro. Musk noted that Tesla aims to make Teslas so far that they would not crash even under extremely challenging circumstances.

Here and there, the highway looks eerily like the rout from north into Stockholm Sweden, where you see a lot of Teslas.

Must be some huge changes coming, there has been no updates to the beta in weeks!! Hopefully wider release idk.. I’m too new to get it.

Amazing! Thanks! You do not need to excuse for the glare, contrarily it is very good to see that Autopilot FSD beta can handle such situations which are even for a human driver sometimes difficult. In the past I thought that a low sun in front of the car would be a nearly unsolvable problem with cameras, but luckily I was wrong
.
Voor FSD Level 3 kan nu niet meer lang duren voor het gehomologeerd kan worden.

Cathie Wood van Ark Invest meent dat ook, en koopt nog bij (tsla is momenteel ruim onder $800 gezakt)

Tesla bull Cathie Wood talks Robotaxis and ARK Invest’s greater conviction in TSLA

Posted on February 19, 2021

Tesla bull Cathie Wood added 130,000 TSLA shares to three of ARK Invest’s ETFs recently. The ARK Innovation ETF bought 89,447 TSLA shares, while the ARK Next Generation Internet ETF added 29,508 Tesla stocks, and the ARK Autonomous Technology and Robotics ETF added 13,173 shares.

Founder, CEO, and CIO of the asset-management company Cathie Wood explained that ARK’s confidence in Tesla has increased as it does more research.

“As we’ve done research on what ride-sharing potentially could add…It could limit the risk significantly. It’s a much more profitable business than electric vehicles,” she told Bob Pisani during an interview on ETF Edge.

In its Big Ideas 2021 report, ARK calculated that Elon Musk’s Robotaxi fleet could generate more than $1 trillion in annual operating earnings by 2030. At the core of Tesla’s autonomous strategy is the development of the Robotaxi fleet and its Autopilot and FSD software. The EV automaker released its Full Self-Driving beta late last year, which is capable of driving on inner-city streets.

FSD beta testers have been very vocal about their experiences with the software, often commenting that they see rapid improvements within short intervals. Although Tesla has made tremendous leaps forward with its FSD beta, there is some support for the company to launch its ride-hailing service with drivers behind the wheel.

“Even though there is some debate at Tesla whether or not they should launch a human-driven ride-hailing network, it would be a very good bridge we think to their autonomous strategy, and we think they will decide to do that,” Wood’s said, expressing some of ARK’s general thoughts on the subject. Some Tesla owners seem to agree with ARK’s Invests opinions about the Robotaxi fleet.
