Tesla moet volgens zakenbank Goldman Sachs de komende paar jaar voor meer dan 10 miljard dollar aan financiering aantrekken wegens noodzakelijke forse investeringen en aanhoudende verliezen.

Als ze enkele Gigafabrieken gaan (laten) bijbouwen lijkt me dat poeplogisch.

Er is sprake van grote investeringen in China. Dat gaat het aandeel alvast een extra boost geven.
Chinezen zijn stinkend rijk, en hun banken ook.

Tesla to Announce China Gigafactory Plans by Fourth Quarter, Musk Says

May 3 -- Tesla Inc. will announce the location of its China battery plant, or gigafactory, before the fourth quarter as it looks to manufacture locally in the world’s biggest auto market.

The production base will also build Tesla cars, Chinese news portal Sina reported, citing Chief Executive Elon Musk as saying in a conference call after releasing the firm’s first quarter financial report. The California-based company lost USD785 million over the period, up from USD330 million in the first quarter of 2017.

Chinese President Xi Jinping last month pledged to open up the nation’s auto sector, which sees more new-energy vehicle sales than any other country. One of the core measures behind the promise is to ditch rules that force foreign carmakers into setting up 50-50 joint ventures with local companies to build factories. The plan is to phase out the restriction by 2022, but for electric carmakers like Tesla, it hopes to shed the policy this year.

Reports surfaced last year suggesting Tesla had reached an agreement with the Shanghai Free Trade Zone and would build a plant there. Musk said at the time that the firm’s China plant would begin production in 2020 and produce hundreds of thousands of cars a year.

Goldman Sachs hanteert al geruime tijd een verkoopadvies voor de autofabrikant. Volgens de zakenbank bestaat de kans dat de beurskoers met nog eens een derde zal dalen. Bij de presentatie van de kwartaalcijfers noemde Tesla-topman Elon Musk een vraag over de kapitaalbehoefte nog dom.
