U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii is returning to Congress for a fourth two-year term.

Voters in rural Oahu and neighboring islands re-elected Gabbard in Tuesday’s general election. The 37-year-old defeated Republican Brian Evans, a singer and entertainer who lives on Maui.

Gabbard had an overwhelming advantage in name recognition and experience over the 48-year-old Evans, who has never been elected to office.

Gabbard was first elected to the U.S. House in 2012. She is one of the first female combat veterans to serve in Congress. She deployed with the Hawaii National Guard to Iraq in 2005 and Kuwait in 2009.

Evans says he decided to run because he’s concerned about the prevalence of medical errors committed by doctors and hospitals.
