Standaard Greece: Libertas announces 22 candidates for European elections

Libertas, the pan-European people’s movement for a democratic, accountable and transparent European Union today announced partnership with Liberal party in Greece for the upcoming European elections .

At the top of the Libertas – Liberal party candidate list in Greece will be economist Emmanuil Kalligiannis . He will be followed on the list by Emmanuil Badouvas, a Professor at the University of Athens.

Declan Ganley said: “Libertas is honoured to be able to present these fine candidates in Athens where democracy was born around 500 BC. The core of democracy - letting the people decide - changed the course of history for the entire world. Do not let Brussels take away democracy from us. Let us have our say on the laws that come from Brussels. Let us have our say on a constitution or a treaty. Libertas will fight for democracy in Brussels for the Greek people.”

Emmanuil Kalligiannis says "Through our association with Libertas, we are committed to more democracy, accountability and equality in the EU. We believe in the values defended by Libertas and will promote those in Greece and in Brussels for our citizens.”

Libertas is running and backing over 600 election candidates across the EU. Declan Ganley spoke of the power of a pan European movement: “By building a pan European bloc of seats in the European Parliament, Libertas offers the only real opportunity for people across Greece to get a better deal from Europe. National parties are powerless - the biggest Greek party in the European Parliament has just over 1% of the seats."

Libertas.eu is a pro-European movement committed to bringing more democracy, accountability and transparency to European Union law-making and institutions.

In June, Libertas-backed candidates will run across the member countries of the European Union for the European Parliament elections. Libertas.eu seeks to have the European voters’ mandate to reform the EU. This is the first time a pan-European party will contest the European elections.
