Hij zegt dat niemand Oekraïne zal redden, en de Donbas voor hen "bevrijden".

We rejoice in free trade with Europe. What do we trade with it? Look at the statistics. Mostly we trade wheat. In addition to agriculture, we have nothing. Quoting is tough. For the first quarter, we have used almost all the quotas. And now you see how the Europeans put us on the knees - "you cut down the forest and bring it to us." Where is any concrete assistance to Ukraine, so that we will could stand on our feet?! If we will be poor in the future, like we are today, no one will need us!
Look at the European press - there is practically no mention of Ukraine. And we are always thinking about "great matters". 90% of improving the situation depends on us. You do not have to walk around the world with an outstretched hand. Today the budget of Ukraine is borrowed by 70%.

En uit dit artikel blijkt dat Poroshenko een grote agressie plant tegen Donbas voor de verkiezingen in 2019. Het artikel, dat verschijnt op een pro-Oekraïense website, maakt er geen geheim van dat Poroshenko niet kan winnen in de huidige omstandigheden, als gevolg van de vreselijke economische toestand. Dus heeft hij een "grote" overwinning nodig. Hij lijkt er van uit te gaan dat de Russen de separatisten niet zullen steunen. Officieel bewijst hij nog lippendienst aan de Minsk akkoorden, maar in werkelijkheid wil hij een militaire overwinning.
Typisch, zie je doorheen de geschiedenis, een grote oorlog starten om de onvrede te doen verstommen. Net wat Saakashvili deed in 2008. Ook hij dacht dat de Russen de Osseten niet zouden helpen, en het Westen hem te hulp zou schieten. Het werd z'n zwanezang.
