The exposition buildings were meant to be temporary; they were built on iron frames covered with plaster and staff, a kind of inexpensive artificial stone. Many of the buildings were unfinished when the exposition opened, and most were demolished immediately after it closed.

The Exposition Universelle of 1900 (French pronunciation: [?kspozisj?? yniv??s?l]), better known in English as the 1900 Paris Exposition, was a world's fair held in Paris, France, from 14 April to 12 November 1900, to celebrate the achievements of the past century and to accelerate development into the next. It was the sixth of ten major expositions held in the city between 1855 and 1937.[a] It was held at the esplanade of Les Invalides, the Champ de Mars, the Trocadéro and at the banks of the Seine between them, with an additional section in the Bois de Vincennes, and it was visited by more than fifty million people. Many international congresses and other events were held within the framework of the exposition, including the 1900 Summer Olympics.

By January 1885 the trustees recognized the need to provide additional space for the organization's growing collection, and to this end purchased the vacant lot directly south on Michigan Avenue. The commercial building was demolished,[7] and the noted architect John Wellborn Root was hired by Hutchinson to design a building that would create an "impressive presence" on Michigan Avenue,[4]22–23? and these facilities opened to great fanfare in 1887.

De Wereldtentoonstelling van 1910 (Exposition Universelle et Internationale) was een wereldtentoonstelling die werd gehouden te Brussel van 23 april tot 1 november 1910.[1] Het Bureau International des Expositions heeft deze tentoonstelling achteraf erkend als de 17e universele wereldtentoonstelling.

De terreinen en gebouwen waren deels gelegen rond de wijk Solbosch (in de zuidelijke uitbreiding van Brussel) en deels in het Jubelpark (restant van de Wereldtentoonstelling van 1897), waar de kunsttentoonstelling plaatsvond.[2] De koloniale tentoonstelling vond plaats in het pasgebouwde Paleis der Koloniën in Tervuren. In het centrum van Brussel werd de Kunstberg aangelegd. Het park met een monumentale trapgang, voorzien van fonteinen, watervalletjes en beeldhouwwerken, gold als een van de attracties van de Wereldtentoonstelling.[3] De meeste gebouwen werden door de verbrusseling in de jaren 60 en 70 van de 20e eeuw afgebroken.

Er was ook een brand :

Door een brand op 14 en 15 augustus werden verscheidene paviljoenen vernield.[4][5] Een deel van de Belgische en Franse secties werden vernield, maar het zwaarst getroffen was de Engelse sectie. Ook werden alle attracties van het Luna-Park en Brussel Kermis vernield. Na de brand werden sommige vernielde delen van de tentoonstelling in sneltempo heropgebouwd.

The Alaska–Yukon–Pacific Exposition, acronym AYP or AYPE, was a world's fair held in Seattle in 1909 publicizing the development of the Pacific Northwest. It was originally planned for 1907 to mark the 10th anniversary of the Klondike Gold Rush, but the organizers learned of the Jamestown Exposition being held that same year and rescheduled.

The fairgrounds were hosted on an undeveloped portion of the present day campus of the University of Washington.

De wereldtentoonstelling van 1913 vond plaats in de Belgische stad Gent. Het Bureau International des Expositions heeft de tentoonstelling achteraf erkend als de 19de universele wereldtentoonstelling. De wereldtentoonstelling werd gehouden van 26 april tot 3 november 1913 in de Sint-Pieters-Aalstwijk, op de plek waar zich nu het Citadelpark en het Miljoenenkwartier bevinden.[1] Met een oppervlakte van 130 hectare was dit een stuk groter dan de eerdere tentoonstelling in Brussel in 1910, waar ook toen al mee gepocht werd.[2] Een dertigtal landen nam deel aan de tentoonstelling. Ook waren verschillende Belgische steden en een wijk "Oud Vlaenderen" van de partij.

Tijdens de grote herdenking van de expo in 2013 dacht men dat er geen enkel authentiek gebouw de wereldtentoonstelling had overleefd. Dat veranderde toen het Vlaams Agentschap Onroerend Erfgoed in datzelfde jaar een gebouw ontdekte in de omgeving van het Universitair Ziekenhuis, goed verscholen tussen twee grootwarenhuizen en de Home Boudewijn. Het gaat om de Sint-Gerardusschool[11], het laatste authentieke gebouw dat voor de wereldtentoonstelling in Gent ontworpen werd.

Het gerechtsgebouw is gebouwd op een sterk hellend vlak (niveauverschil van 20 meter tussen de boven- en benedenstad) waardoor de ingangen zich op verschillende niveaus bevinden. Alles aan dit gebouw is van enorme afmetingen en groots van schaal. Het gebouw heeft de vorm van een rechthoek waarvan de middellijnen respectievelijk 150 en 160 meter lang zijn.[1] De totale bebouwde grondoppervlakte is 26.006 m². Het is voorzien van 8 binnenplaatsen (6000 m²), 27 grote en 245 kleine zalen of lokalen. Een monumentale koepel (24.000 ton), 104 meter hoog (142 meter boven TAW), bekroont het gebouw.[2]

De indrukwekkende hal of de salle des pas perdus is zo'n 3.600 m² groot met inbegrip van de galerij van de eerste verdieping en is 90 meter lang en 40 meter breed. Een windroos met zestien stralen geeft het centrum van de ruimte aan.

De hoofdingang aan het Poelaertplein wordt betreden via een monumentaal peristilium. Aan de voet van twee grote trappen staan meer dan levensgrote standbeelden van de wetgever Lykourgos, de redenaar Demosthenes, de advocaat Cicero en de rechtsgeleerde Ulpianus. Ze zijn gemaakt door Armand Cattier en Félix Bouré. Die laatste, specialist van kolossale leeuwen, maakte ook de twee griffioenen onder het fronton van het centrale portiek. Op dat fronton, 39 meter hoog, troont de buste van de gehelmde Themis, een creatie van Joseph Ducaju.

The national commemorative Exhibition of the centenary of the opening of the Ports of Brazil, also known as Brazilian National Exposition of 1908 or the National Exposition of Brazil at Rio de Janeiro, marked a hundred years since the opening of the Brazilian ports acelebrated Brazil's trade and development.[3] It opened in Urca, Rio de Janeiro on 11 August,[4] stayed open for 3 months and received over 1 million visitors.[3]

The main entrance was through a hundred foot high[8] illuminated gateway designed by René Barba.
