Dat Tesla meer afwijkt in die list zal hoofdzakelijk aan de bandenbreedte en aerovelgen wel of niet liggen. Dat is simpel aan te tonen.

En OTA-updates met de jaren was ik vergeten, andere constructeurs hebben dat niet.

De EPA waardes van Tesla veranderen wel en soms met 5% meer rijbereik na optimalisatie van de stroomverbruikers en wie weet ook minder laadverliezen.

EPA (en ADAC ook) meten het verbruik incl laadverliezen bij (trager) AC-opladen.

Of autocar.uk dat ook doet weet ik niet, in elk geval hebben ze al die wagens niet in dezelfde omstandigheden getest, wel verspreid over enkele jaren wie weet zelfs 3 jaar...

De Tesla model S 75 wordt al bijna 3 jaar niet meer gemaakt zelfs die zetten ze erbij. lol.

Hyundai’s latest EV concept is a visual mash-up of Model 3, Porsche 911, and Mercedes EQS

Hyundai did a digital reveal of its Prophecy EV concept last month. Now the company says the model is more than a concept. According to Hyundai, the Prophecy is a showcase of vehicle features that will be offered in the not-too-distant future.

Hyundai-Kia doesn’t have a problem with producing beautiful concept designs. The Hyundai 45 and Kia Imagine from last year had sharp styling combining retro and futuristic elements. The Prophecy uses sweeping lines for a sporty appearance. The interior is meant to convey a cool, dark, relaxing vibe.

Hyundai compiled the positive praise for the Prophecy’s design. The list of superlatives included: “cool as hell” and “stunning.” Italy’s Quattroruote described the Prophecy as “a sporty sedan that traces the lines of the future.” We see elements from the Tesla Model 3 on the front end. But there’s also a bit of the all-electric Mercedes-Benz EQS and Porsche 911. What do you see?

The Prophecy provides plenty of concept-car eye candy. A steering wheel is replaced with dual joysticks. Hyundai says that 90% of the vehicle’s functions are controlled by buttons on the joysticks, so the driver never has to reach over to other buttons.

It’s not clear which of those features, if any, will reach a production EV. But as long as we’re fantasizing about a super-sleek eco-friendly sports car, consider Hyundai’s claims about the Prophecy’s air-filtration system:

When particle levels inside the vehicle get too high, the air system activates, taking in fresh air from the outside, filtering it for purity, and circulating the clean air throughout the vehicle. Moreover, this does not just happen when the car is driving, Prophecy continues to clean the air, even when it is idling or charging, and even if no one is inside.

These claims should be taken with a giant particulate of salt. (I debunked Geely’s claims about its corona-killing air-filtration system.)

But let’s not get hung up on reality. The Prophecy, following last year’s 45 concept model, is all about its looks.

Tesla is reportedly preparing to release a Long Range variant of its Model 3 sedan in China, and it could hit the market for consumers as early as this week.

The vehicle would have 404 miles of range on a single charge under WLTP standards, or around 650 kilometers of driving distance when its battery pack is at full capacity. According to Bloomberg, the vehicle could start at about 350,000 yuan, or USD 49,674 as per information related by sources familiar with the matter. The exact price of the new car has not been determined, however.

Interestingly enough, a Model 3 with over 400 miles of range would be the first of its kind. The American Long Range and Performance variants of the vehicle both pack 322 miles of range, though it must be noted that these figures are estimates from the EPA, which tends to be more conservative than the WLTP.

It is unknown what drivetrain will be available on the new Chinese Model 3. While Tesla only has the LR AWD variant available to consumers in the United States, rumors circulated throughout the community that China had received an approval to sell the discontinued LR RWD variant of the car. This rumor went unconfirmed and was never solidified as fact by Tesla.

Tesla has proven it has the capability to inch closer to the 400-mile range mark with some of its vehicles. The Model S and X both received an update in early March that boosted the range of both cars. The Model S, however, is just nine miles away from reaching the 400-mile per charge mark, as the update increased its range from 373 miles to 391 miles, and that’s under the EPA standard too.

Het is de heilige graal onder Model 3-kopers die actieradius boven alles stellen: de Long Range-Rear Wheel Drive-variant. Dit off-menu-aanbod bestaat in de VS en Europa al maanden niet meer, maar keert nu in China terug.

In juni vorig jaar berichtten we dat de Long Range-RWD-versie van de Tesla Model 3 van het menu was geschrapt. Nu is dat eigenlijk een verkeerde uitdrukking, want de auto heeft strikt genomen nooit op het menu gestaan. De Long Range-RWD stond niet in de configurator, maar was middels een belletje of mailtje aan Tesla wel bestelbaar als alternatief voor de reguliere Long Range-versie.

Met die auto deelde deze RWD z’n grote accupakket, maar de aandrijving geschiedde in dit geval slechts door één elektromotor. De achterwielaangedreven variant bleef daarom wat acceleratie betreft wat achter bij de ‘Dual Motor’-versie, maar kon mooi wel bogen op een WLTP-actieradius van dik 600 km, waar de ‘normale’ Long Range het met 560 km moet doen. Bovendien was de RWD met een prijs van zo’n 55 mille een stukje goedkoper dan de AWD-versie.

Helaas is FCEV geen stekkerwagen anders zou die op de derde plaats staan YTD 2020.

Voor de rest is het vanaf nu Tesla die de leiding neemt van de stekkerwagens, bijna 4k enkel model 3.

Tesla Model 3 new ruler in Korea

The South Korean plugin market reached a new record in March, with 5.641 units, with the last three months doubling the YoY numbers, to 8.765 units, with the PEV share reaching a record 3,3% last month, pulling the YTD count to 2,3%.

This record performance is monthly due to the Tesla Model 3, that stole the Hyundai Kona EV thunder, being the new Best Selling EV, with an amazing 45% share, hitting 2.415 deliveries in March a new all time best for a foreign model, with the Californian being the first overseas model to lead this ranking.

Despite being removed from the throne, the Korean crossover can't really complain of its March performance, as it registered 1.639 units, its best result since July, with the Czech Hyundai factory now making units for Europe, Hyundai should have more space to allocate volume to its domestic market, so expect the Kona EV numbers to increase as the year progresses.

But the Tesla sports sedan is not the only foreigner to shine, the BMW 530e jumped to #5 last month, thanks to a record 210 units.

A final mention to the Hyundai Nexo Fuel Cell model, a model that is seeing its registrations jump four-fold this year, to 1.230 units, with last month score of 730 units being a new record, making it a success story in Korea, a unique event for a FCEV, allowing the technology to have 0,32% share of the total market, a world best for Fuel Cells.

In Noorwegen zijn de Noren een beetje uitgekeken op de vele Tesla model 3 sedans. Het is daar zeker wachten op het model Y, pas 2021 via Giga Berlin.

De Noren willen blijkbaar electrische SUVs want Audi e-Tron wint het duidelijk van de compactere goedkope EV zoals e-Golf, Leaf, Kona.

Tesla model 3 pas 5e ondanks nog redelijke 997 nog in maart (jan-feb zwak), maart 2019 was dat nog 5.315 stuks...

De pure plofwagens zijn nu een minderheid geworden met 10% ingeschreven diesels en 8% benzines.

De ICE-ban - nieuwe wagens in 2025 - zal overbodig worden.

Lieft 75% ingeschreven stekkerwagens maart, 58 % ingeschreven pure BEV. Q1-2020 komt dan op 70% PEV en 56% BEV.
Milde hybrides meegeteld zelfs 82% aandeel inschrijvingen.

Het beste (niet-stekker)plofmodel kwam pas op de 7e plaats in maart.

Audi e-Tron reigns supreme

Last month, plugins represented three quarters (75%) of the overall Norwegian market, with BEVs alone representing 56% of the total sales, pulling the 2020 PEV share to 70%.

If we add HEVs to the tally, we have 82% of the market already electrified.


As a consequence, Diesel and Gasoline sales are at the lowest ever, with the first at 10% share, while the second is at 8%. It seems pure ICE sales will be extinct long before the 2025 ICE ban...

With theses numbers in mind, i decided to change the Top 20 table, instead of showing the Best Selling plugins, they now show the Top 20 Best Sellers broken down by powertrain, after all, plugins, and BEVs in particular, are now the mainstream choice, with HEVs and ICE models being the "oddball" choice.

And to think the forecast i made for Norway (66% share in 2020) was pretty bold...

Looking at the March model sales by fuel, we have a 100% BEV Top 5, with the best unplugged model showing up only in #7.

The Audi e-Tron won another Best Seller award, its third in a row, with the Tesla Model 3 ending its peak month in 2nd place, with 997 deliveries, while the surprise of the month is the Hyundai Kona EV, finishing the month in #4, with a record 525 registrations, so it seems the Czech-made units are already helping the Korean crossover to reach new highs.

Plots blijkt de Tesla Model S sneller te zijn geworden. Het afleggen van de standaardsprint kost amper nog twee tellen, gezien de minieme duur kan haast van afraffelen worden gerept.

Sprinten met een Tesla. Het is een vermakelijk tijdsverdrijf, een obsceen genoegen zonder praktisch nut. Gelukkig hoeft niet altijd betamelijkheid aan de dag te worden gelegd.

Voor hen met een voorliefde voor jakkeren en het overenthousiast beroeren van het stroompedaal, is het goed nieuws dat de Tesla Model S Performance nog sneller sprint. Van 0 naar 96 km/u, ofwel van nul naar 60 mp/u, kost slechts 2,3 seconden.

Erg mededeelzaam hierover is Tesla niet, het is onduidelijk of dit het resultaat is van aanpassingen aan hard- of software. Wel is de Launch Mode recentelijk aangepakt en beter geworden.

Het is altijd baas boven baas, technische vernieuwingen maken de Tesla Model S Plaid mogelijk sneller dan de huidige, maar het is de Tesla Roadster die een waarlijk buitenaards prestatieniveau aan de dag weet te leggen. Op die laatste is het een geduldig wachten. (Via: electrek.co)

Fresh off of its inclusion in a list from Autocar that names several EVs as some of the fastest-acceleration vehicles in the world, Tesla has subtracted an additional tenth of a second from the 2.4-second 0-60 mph estimate for the Raven Model S Performance. The flagship sedan’s newest builds are now listed with a 0-60 mph time of in 2.3 seconds, similar to a Lamborghini Huracán Performante.

Tesla also updated the Model X Performance’s acceleration by subtracting a tenth of a second from its 0-60 mph estimate. It went from an already blazingly-quick 2.7 seconds to an even more impressive 2.6 seconds. That’s similar to the 0-60 mph acceleration of the Lamborghini Aventador SV, a supercar.

While it is unknown why the acceleration estimates for both vehicles have been improved, speculations point to Tesla’s release of its “Cheetah Stance” Launch Mode that is exclusive to the two flagship vehicles. If there were a performance firmware update that stretched across all Performance vehicles, the 0-60 mph rating of the Model 3 and Model Y Performance would have lowered as well. However, only the Model S and Model X Performance received a revised rating, and both vehicles have the newly-released “Cheetah Stance” Launch Mode as their middle ground.

The new “Launch Mode” update was leaked by a Tesla hacker known as “@greentheonly” on April 3. The upgrade would utilize the air suspension system in the Model S and Model X to improve launches. Just after the release of the updated Launch Mode, Brooks Weisblat of the DragTimes YouTube channel tested that the acceleration of a Raven Model S Performance that received the Cheetah Stance update. As per Brooks’ test, the Model S Performance’s 0-60 mph time did improve by about a tenth of a second after the update.

Tesla Model 3 shines in transition month

With the Chinese market slowly returning to normal, now that China has passed to the other side of the COVID pandemic, sales started to recover from February’s fall into the abyss, by dropping just 51%, to close to 60,000 units, a significant improvement from the 65% fall of the previous month.

It is expected that this recovery will develop in the coming months, with the second half of the year probably seeing positive months, and maybe by the end of 2020, we could see this market back in black.

As a consequence of these events, the March PEV share was 5.7% (4.8% BEV), pulling the 2020 share to 4.2% (3.3% BEV), a step below from the 5.5% of 2019, but this is still the first month of the AC (After Corona) era, so we expect this number to grow throughout the year.


One positive sign is that BEVs are resisting better, with all-electric models dropping 49% vs 58% for PHEVs, leading BEVs to have 84% of plugin sales last month, in line with the 86% of last December, and pulling its 2020 share to 79%, so the “Go BEV, or Go Home” mantra continues.

Looking at March Best Sellers, the production ramp up is visible, with the 5-digit performance of the Tesla Model 3 leading the surge, but the remaining Top 5 models have also seen Personal or Year Best performances last month.

Met zowat 600 km op de teller is de Tesla Model S met 100 kWh batterijpakket vandaag ongeveer het beste dat je kan krijgen qua autonomie bij de elektrische wagens. Nog niet genoeg? Wat als je dat rijbereik zowat kan verdubbelen?
Dat is alvast het plan van Triton, een bedrijf dat vooral naam maakte in de sector van de zonne-energie. Het plan om het rijbereik te verdubbelen is alvast heel simpel: verdubbel de accugrootte. De Model H, het eerste wapenfeit van Triton op de automarkt, wordt dus een elektrische SUV met maar liefst 200 kWh aan batterijen.

Voorts krijgt de typisch Amerikaans gestylede SUV (denk Cadillac Escalade, Hummer, Lincoln Navigator) vier elektromotoren - één op elk wiel - en een systeemvermogen van 1.500 pk! Genoeg om het zwaargewicht binnen 2,9 seconden naar de 100 te slingeren, even snel als een Lamborghini Aventador SVJ.

Tesla claims a 3x improvement in thermal endurance for Model S and Model X performance vehicles in a new software update.
As we reported earlier this week, Tesla updated the Model S Performance 0-60 mph acceleration to 2.3 seconds on its website.

The change came after Tesla updated its Launch Mode, which enables Tesla performance vehicles to launch at full power, for its latest Model S and Model X Raven vehicles.

It is now equipped with a new Cheetah stance using the new adaptive air suspension and it is supposed to improve traction.

Now Tesla is announcing the changes in an email to Model S and Model X Performance owners and the company also claims a “3x improvement in thermal endurance”:

“**You asked for it. With our latest over-the-air software update to Model S Performance, we improved 0-60 acceleration to 2.3 seconds and quarter-mile time to 10.4 seconds. Go for more back-to-back runs with improved thermal endurance, and activate Launch Mode with a press of the pedals. Launch Mode’s new Cheetah Stance lowers the front axle and adjusts damping before entry for better traction and faster acceleration off the line. You’ll automatically receive this update based on your location and vehicle configuration—you can’t request the update. Connect to Wi-Fi or a mobile hotspot to download and install quicker.”

Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess is worried about Tesla’s lead in self-driving and software.

In an internal Volkswagen e-mail that leaked this past weekend, Diess discussed Tesla’s impressive system for improving its vehicle’s self-driving capability. Diess seemed to admit that Tesla’s full self-driving infrastructure is far superior to any other mainstream automaker today.

Diess said:

“What worries me the most is the capabilities in the assistance systems. 500,000 Teslas function as a neural network that continuously collects data and provides the customer a new driving experience every 14 days with improved properties. No other automobile manufacturer can do that today.”

Diess also spoke about Tesla’s software, which is arguably the best in the market today. The CEO stated that Tesla’s system for updating vehicles and providing drivers with new experiences is “continuous.” Interestingly enough, software is something that Volkswagen is having difficulty with in its ID.3 electric cars.

The leak was obtained by German car magazine Automobilwoche on Saturday, April 25.

This is not the first time Volkswagen has admitted Tesla’s lead in the EV segment. Volkswagen has previously stated that Tesla holds a sizable lead in the electric transportation sector. In mid-March, Volkswagen board member Thomas Ulbrich said that the Silicon Valley-based electric carmaker held a ten-year lead in the industry. “Tesla is an impressive manufacturer. It is a motivator for us. Tesla has ten years more experience. But we are very quick in catching up,” Ulbrich said.

However, there is mutual respect between the two automakers. It is evident based on comments from both company’s CEOs.

Herbert Diess and Elon Musk have shown genuine respect for each other for a long time. Diess has always been very respectful to Musk, crediting him for bringing the electric vehicle infrastructure to the mainstream and providing consumers with an environmentally friendly option for transportation.

At the Golden Steering Wheel Awards in November 2019, Musk and Diess traded complements with each other. After the Tesla Model 3 took home an award at the event, Diess congratulated Musk and recognized his attempts to bring the world away from environmentally-harming transportation.

“First of all, I really wanted to congratulate you, great achievement, I know all of this competition here in Germany, this award, its a great achievement. We know each other; we don’t meet so often, though. I would say that we share a vision, which is that we only can achieve the CO2 targets and reduce carbon emissions through electric cars,” Diess said.

Volkswagen has a tainted past due to the Dieselgate scandal, which revealed that the German automaker was placing cheat devices in its vehicles to pass standard emissions testing. However, the company has made many attempts to clear its name, and Diess is undoubtedly a big part of that.

In the past, Volkswagen has outlined its $33 billion plan to begin a transition to electrification. Alleged pictures of the production version of the BMW iX3 electric SUV have leaked ahead of the start of production.
When unveiling the BMW iX3 concept vehicle in 2018, the German automaker said that it’s going to be the first electric vehicle based on its fifth-generation electric powertrain technology, which is designed to enable longer electric range.

BMW has been talking about a 74kWh battery pack, which the automaker claims is going to enable 440 km of range.

Though they are talking about a WLTP test cycle, which is often difficult to achieve in real-world conditions for most people. A real-world range of ~360 km (~230 miles) on a single charge is more likely.

The German automaker also disclosed 210 kW/286 hp as the power of the BMW iX3’s electric drivetrain.

We received a tip about an Instagram account claiming to have the first pictures of the production version of the iX3 electric SUV:

The images look very similar to the pictures of camouflaged iX3 production prototypes that BMW has previously released.

The alleged production version also features the aero wheels that BMW confirmed will be standard on the electric SUV.

When first unveiling the concept, BMW confirmed that the all-electric iX3 SUV will be built in China and exported to other markets starting in 2020.

However, earlier this year, BMW cancels its plan to launch the iX3 electric SUV in the US.

The German automaker’s dealers reportedly didn’t think they could sell the electric vehicle due to its range.

For comparison, the Tesla Model Y, which is a competitor in the electric small SUV/crossover segment, achieves over 300 miles of EPA range on a battery pack with a similar energy capacity.
