Ik ben nog steeds short maar trade in de richting van de trend.

Deze ronde is voorlopig voor Musk.
En ja, zelfs zonder de 10-Q is één en ander duidelijk.

Niet dat het aandeel niet meer kan dalen. Ik denk dat er nog koopopportuniteiten onder de 200 komen in de toekomst. Globale crisis enzo.

Maar Tesla is gelanceerd. Al geruime tijd geleden. Falliet gaat het niet meer.

Tesla is the second-largest short in the U.S. equity market behind Apple (AAPL).

Shorts sellers have been trimming their Tesla positions since June, and many reduced their exposure ahead of earnings, hedging for a strong earnings report. About $8.3 billion worth of shorts held on to their positions, however, “and took a major hit to their bottom line,” S3 said.

“ *We are expecting more short covering and the continuation of this long-term short squeeze as (Tesla’s) stock price continues to show strength,” S3 said in a report Thursday.

That has created two types of Tesla short sellers, those who have shorted the stock for a long time “with much more conviction and staying power,” and the newer shorts, who are more momentum-based and more willing to exit a losing position.

“While the first group is relatively short-squeeze impervious, the second group is much more susceptible to stock price-based buying and selling,” S3 said.

Tesla’s short-seller interest hovers around $8.31 billion and about 32.62 million shares shorted, or 23% of Tesla’s float. If the stock stays steady in the $300 range, the number of shares shorted are likely to fall below 30 million, S3 said.

Short sellers bet on a stock falling in price. They then borrow the shares to sell them, hoping they can later pick them up at a lower price, return them to the original lender, and pocket the difference.

Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk has criticized short sellers numerous times, and said earlier this year the shorts were “feeling the burn.”

Tesla late Wednesday reported a hefty surprise third-quarter profit and sales that were slightly below Wall Street expectations.

The car maker also said key projects such as its China factory and next vehicle in its lineup, the Model Y, are “ahead of schedule.” It kept its goal of delivering more than 360,000 vehicles this year and vowed to remain profitable with “possible temporary exceptions.” ....

Wordt wel spannend want tegen dat het model Y effectief te koop zal zijn (en ook geleverd kan worden) zullen er tientallen of zelfs honderden andere modellen van E-wagens te koop komen. En moest ik zoals veel mensen binnen pakweg 3 jaar een E-wagen willen aanschaffen ik zou sowieso voor een premiummerk kiezen. Nooit voor een Amerikaans product genre Tesla.

First Chinese Model

Complete with the autopilot feature, the model’s price range starts from $50,330 (355,800 yuan) and is based on the selected features. The company has suspended online sales of the previous model.

As Bloomberg notes, the car cost is only about 3% lower than Tesla’s basic imported models available in China — providing no financial relief to its local consumers.

Hebben ze eigenlijk V1 en V2 ooit verkocht?

Nochtans hebben ze met de Roof Tiles in 2016 de overname van SolarCity door de strot van de Tesla aandeelhouders geduwd.
De deposition van Musk en de andere board members in de class action suite tegen die overname is verhelderend.

Beleggers laten zich wat misleiden door de focus op USA alleen, waar de omzetdaling het grootste was YoY. (poeplogisch na zoveel export naar Europa en andere vanaf 2019), het buitenland alleen kan al die veranderingen niet compenseren, desondanks zwarte cijfers.

In its quarterly Form 10-Q filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Tuesday, Tesla Inc.l (NASDAQ: TSLA) reported U.S. sales in the third quarter fell by $2 billion year over year to $3.13 billion. The company delivered more than 97,000 vehicles to customers during the quarter.

Sales in China rose by $260 million to $669 million in the quarter while sales in the Netherlands rose 56% to $427 million and sales in Norway were up about 10% to $253 million, but a U.S. sales decline of 39% was too large to overcome. Total sales fell by $521 million year over year to $6.3 billion, including $402 million in Tesla’s storage and energy generation segment.

The U.S. sales decline was attributed to “price adjustments [Tesla] made to [its] vehicle offerings” in the first nine months of the year. The company was referring to the halving of the federal tax incentive from $7,500 for a buyer of an all-electric vehicle to $3,750 through the first six months of the year and the halving again that will drop the incentive to $1,875 for the second half before disappearing altogether on January 1, 2020.

To take some of the sting out of those reductions, Tesla lowered its selling price on its popular Model 3 sedan.

The drop in U.S. sales was partially offset by lower costs that Tesla attributed to manufacturing efficiencies and lower prices negotiated with some suppliers. Bloomberg News sought a comment from Tesla’s battery cell supplier, Panasonic, but did not receive one.

Regarding the phase-out of the federal incentive, Tesla said it believed that the “phase-out has likely pulled forward some vehicle demand into the periods preceding each reduction, and we may see similar pull-forwards through the remainder of 2019. In the long run, we do not expect a meaningful impact to our sales in the U.S., as we believe that each of our vehicle models offers a compelling proposition even without incentives.”

Investors have not been so sanguine, shaving 3.3% off the share price Tuesday afternoon. The stock traded at $316.89 in a 52-week range of $176.99 to $379.49. The 12-month consensus price target for the shares is $261.40.

Ik verwacht tegen vrijdag toch weer > $320.

Je bekijkt het van de verkeerde kant.
Analisten gaan ervan uit dat Tesla de orderboeken kent en kan inschatten wat de demand is op korte termijn voor een regio, de mix en een inschatting kan maken van de sustained demand voor de verschillende regio's.

Maw, als Tesla nieuwe markten aanboort dan gaan ze ervan uit dat er verschuivingen hebben plaatsgevonden in de markten die ze reeds bedienden.

Als jij zegt dat de export 'de reden' is, dan verklaar je eigenlijk Tesla onbekwaam.

Face it, Tesla gaat niet overkop. Ze hebben meer als voldoende cash en zijn in volle expansie. De grote "end of demand" zit er ook niet aan te komen. Kan ook moeilijk: ze produceren relatief weinig wagens ivg met andere automerken.

Wat de beurskoers gaat doen kan ik niet voorspellen.
